Question:

Drinking Hydrogen Peroxide?

by  |  earlier

I've been drinking hydrogen peroxide so I can stay up longer and study. It seems to give you the same energy you would get after going for a jog, only it's a h**l of a lot easier. Will it kill me? Are there any known side effects? How does it work?

  1. There are some that theorize that the added oxygen in your system will give you all sorts of wonder effects..  believe this or not, it's up to you.

DO NOT, however, take the cheap over-the-counter brown bottle  drugstore stuff this way.. it is stabilized with all sorts of heavy metals & other nasties that are REALLY bad for you.

Pure 35% H2O2 is available online.  I'd suggest one of these sources.

I use it for cleaning all over the house, and on my skin.  But internally?  No thankie...

  2. I think EzFoxie had the best answer.  One thing not touched on was the fact that some physician's, not many, but some give H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) intravenous.  Soooo...it would seem there are benefits to it.

Here is a link that has a great article on this:

  3. that isn't what is going on inside you XD. that sizzling is white blood cells at the surface of your skin. the only side effect i know of is vomiting. i would recommend a jog

  4. YOU CAN DRINK HYDROGEN PEROXIDE!!

    In small amounts

athletes use it to build up stamina

    it is naturally occurring

Hydrogen peroxide is cheap and effective and it cures a lot of problems

Not exactly sure what it does, but I read that it increases your oxygen content in the body, which could result in your increased in energy; which is why athletes use it for stamina purposes

  5. do not under any circumstances drink peroxide yes it will kill or at the very least will put you in bed for the next few weeks with stomach ache it will react with the acid in your stomach producing painful and possibly deadly side effects again i will say DON"T DRINK IT !!!!!!!!!!

  6. You know when you have an infected cut and you pour it on it sizzles and bubbles? Well that's what's going on inside of you. You're not supposed to drink it. I don't know what the side effects are... but they PROBABLY aren't that great...

  7. god...u wanna burn ur insides

  8. WTF is wrong with you. That stuffs makes your cuts become scars. You are basically doing acid.

  9. Hi alison. You've actually touched upon something here which is a topic of debate among many in the medical profession. Internal use of Hydrogen Peroxide is administered by some medical professionals and is called 'Oxygen Therapy'. The theory behind this is that increased levels of Oxygen in the blood is beneficial to ones health, and Hydrogen Peroxide has very strong oxidizing properties. This is why you get your increase in energy. When you exercise (like your example of going for a jog) you increase the rate your heart beats and you pump more oxygen around your body. Your shortcut does much the same thing. The hydrogen peroxide you ingest is absorbed in to your blood stream where enzymes known as peroxidases catalytically decompose the hydrogen peroxide to nothing but water and oxygen. The flip side to this, however, is that high levels of hydrogen peroxide in the blood can create oxygen bubbles that can block blood flow which in turn can cause gangrene and death.

If you are going to ingest hydrogen peroxide then I would advise using a concentration of around 3% - 5% (This is about the strength of the stuff you would get from a chemist for treating wounds). Also try to consume only the very least you need for your energy boost and try not to make a habbit of it. DO NOT use 35% concentration as suggested above as this can cause vomiting and severe burns of the throat and stomach.

I myself am a student and I know how hard the revision season can be (thankfully my exams are over for the year). This year the substance of choice for 'study parties' was Modafinil which here in the UK is not a controled substance. If, however, you are in the US I'm afraid it is a controled substance but it's sister drug Adrafinil is still unregulated and as such you can import, posess, and take this legally. It may be an idea to research these as they are superior to hydrogen peroxide in many ways when it comes to studying.

To summerise... no, it won't kill you. Possible side effects would be mild to moderate damage to your throat and stomach if taken at a high enough concentration. It works by increasing the oxygen levels in your blood.

Sorry if this seems like too much of an essay but I thought you may appreciate a more detailed answer as this involves your health. I wish you all the best with your studies and hope the added energy boost here and there pays off for you.

  10. STOP.  You will burn your esophagus.  What other kind of idiotic things will we find on here?  Duct tape to remove pimples, now this.  God help you all.

  11. Seems to me a H2O2 e***a would give you what you are looking for..................

  12. I've heard of Oxygen Therapy, but nothing could convince me to drink the stuff other than swishing it around for whiter teeth or a cut.

When I had a medical difficulty, I started to put cosmetic grade peroxide in my bath water (at the risk of looking real weird, I will admit this was from high strength hair color developers found in beauty supply stores, and I still question the safety of that.. but afterall it is understood to be on the skin at lengths of time.. not that I trust the ingredients in a lot of products that are allowed for the skin).  I think that people tend to underestimate the power of skin absorption.  A little fizzy kind of.  I did think I got a little energy buzz from it, but at the same time, I think there was a tendency to conk out and sleep afterwards.
