If I drink one bottle of wine (13% vol) this evening when I go out, will I be over the limit to drive the next morning at 8'O'Clock. I live in the UK.

I know they say it all depends on what you've eaten and how much you weight etc. Well I have had pasta for tea, I am 5ft 7 and weight 8 stone 5.

  1. Assuming it's a 750ml bottle of wine:

The best way of calculating this would be like this:

volume (ml) x strength (%) divided by 1000 = total units

    e.g. 750 x 13 / 1000 = 9.75 units

each unit takes around 1 hour to be absorbed by the body

the current drink drive limit is approx 5 units (UK)

I'd reckon on 10 hours after drinking before you're fit to drive

  2. figure 6 to 8 hours for alcohol to be out of your system.

  3. Yes just have three 175ml glasses, instead of the four 175ml glasses that fit in the average 700ml bottle.

  4. use public transport

  5. yes

  6. you might be sober enough but i doubt that you will be in the mood to leave the couch due to a sever hangover. but you are correct metabolism is a big factor in this, as is your tolerance to alcohol.

  7. I've no idea whether your blood alcohol reading would take you over the limit or not, but I won't be taking a lift with you. Are you some kind of ladette? Or Scottish? Why on earth would you want to drink a whole bottle of wine to yourself. Do you need to get drunk to enjoy yourself? If so ask yourself why...

Glad to hear you're eating pasta - at least that's healthy. Unless it's spaghetti hoops of course.

  8. Why do you have to finish the whole bottle? You will certainly be over the limit firstly and more importantly it is very bad for your liver to drink that much so quickly.

Drink loads of water in between drinking and try limit it to three small glasses (175ml). You will be within your limits, save money and feel better tomorrow!

  9. You dont say when you will be tucked up in bed.  Have a pint of water before you get into bed and as long as its not much after midnight you should be okay.
