Drinking age in costa rica?

i know wikipedia says 18, im going to be 17 when i go and i was wondering if anyone 17 or 16 or w/e tryed to get alcohol. will they ask for ID? Does anyone know how it works over there?

  1. The drinking age in Costa Rica is 18 (to drink & buy) but its not strictly enforced so you can easily buy it at 17 or any age for that matter. Only really upscale bars and clubs will require an I.D. (or copy of your passport to check you birthdate). Other than that, you can buy alcohol anywhere else, the supermarket having lower prices than buying a drink at the bar or clubs.

    The drinking age in the majority of countries in Latin America is 18, but they don't strictly enforce it.


  2. yeah i drinking age is 18, i went last summer and i was 17 too.. it really wasnt that hard to get it.. do you have any friends who are a least 18?! you should fine..you'll get it somehow.. we always doo :)

  3. Unless  you are going to Jaco or some other really tourist-trap town, should not be a problem getting a beer at a bar.

    BE CAREFUL... dont flash your money, or you will be robbed, stabbed and tossed in a gutter.
