Question:

Drinking alcohol to celebrate a couple weeks after giving birth?

My friends are planning a small get together two or three weeks after I give birth to drink a little bit and have fun. What do you think about this? Should I go or would that make me a bad mother? I'm a first time mom so I'm not sure. The baby would be with my mom for the night and she don't see anything wrong about having a little fun since I've been cooped up for 9 months plus she would probably enjoy having alone time with her new grandson.

  1. hey, i am a mom of three and even mom's need some fun time, the baby will not be traumatized by this once in a while, besides, grandma's need some alone time with their grandchild once in a while too, go, have fun, let your hair down and cut loose, you can go back to the mom mode the next day

  2. It might be better to wait even longer. You will likely still be bleeding only 2 or 3 weeks post partum. If you are going to leave your baby you might as well wait til you and your significant other can also make a night out of it if you know what I mean. You will have the docs ok to resume all "activities" at about 6 weeks post partum. FYI, you may feel nauseous when you first start drinking again after pregnancy. You may also feel completely different about leaving your new born once you have him in your arms. You may just not want to leave him with anyone that early.

  3. You're a horrible mom for having some fun every once in a while! LOL! I'm just kidding. I think it's a great idea to have a small celebration after being prego for 9 mos. As long as you have arrangements for your new baby, which you do, you're fine!! My birthday's about 3 weeks after my due date and I'm absolutely planning on celebrating and having a couple drinks!! Good luck with your pregnancy!!

  4. there is nothing wrong with planning a night out after the baby is born. you are making the right choice by having the baby go to your mom's house overnight so you can just relax and have fun. better that you don't try to take care of her intoxicated - so make sure it is an overnight at your mom's house. also if you are breastfeeding than you can't drink, so if you are just formula feeding - then no problems. you gave up your life and body for at least 9 months. when you get it back, you deserve a night out. have fun and be safe

  5. Okay don't listen to the first answer because you going out with your friends is not going to make you a bad mother, Do what ever makes you happy I think it's fine, You deserve it after being prego so what, If your breastfeeding just make sure you pump bottles for a whole day and night! Have fun

  6. This isn't a question anybody can answer but you.  And you won't be able to answer it until after you have your baby.  Regardless of how you define "drink a little bit" and "have fun", you won't know if you will be physically or emotionally ready for this until the time comes.  Trust me.  You may even find that you have no desire to leave your child so soon overnight.  If you're planning on breastfeeding, though, it might be difficult for you to be away for any length of time, but if you're not, there's no real ethical reason why you can't go out and enjoy yourself for an evening.  Of course it doesn't make you a bad mother.  But you will realize very quickly after your little one is born that your life is no longer just about you, and every decision you make will now affect another human being.  Take it one day at a time, see how things go.  Your friends will be there when you're ready.

  7. You can if you planning to have your baby to be addictive to alcohol or become alcoholic as an infant.  You are a mother and the baby is still feeding onto you (breast feeding).  You will not have a very healthy baby if you do.

Think about it before you celebrate, there are so many non-alcholic ways of celebrating and you should take advantage of one.

  8. You will still be healing around that time. It may be best to  celebrate after 6 weeks when the bleeding stops and healing process is almost complete. Theres nothing wrong with going out though, it is just going to be rougher than you expect.
