Question:

Drinking and Lexapro?

I've been on 20 mg Lexapro for 5 months now for Panic Disorder. My doctor said a couple glasses of wine every now and then won't hurt. Well, i tried a new wine Monday night and got really wasted, which I didn't realize I was doing. Since then, I've been very anxious and had a panic attack last night, which I haven't had in 3 months. I know I totally messed up by drinking this much, but do you think the drinking has contributed to the extreme anxiety this week and will I be able to overcome this again? I feel really hopeless right now.

  1. It really is not a good idea to drink when you are on medication.  I am on Lexapro also.  I only take sips of drinks.  Like I will have a taste of my BFs drink.  I am so sorry you have extreme anxiety.  I hope you feel better.  I would talk to your doctor about your episode.  Your doctor needs to know because that way he or she can adjust or add medications if needed.

  2. You will be fine..give it time. The alcohol counteracts the antidepressant...and can make you feel even worse. I drank (alot) and take antidepressants and ended up in the hospital. I learned a hard lesson, but I'm doing great now.

  3. ask your doctor he is the only one that could help with this

  4. Your doctor should be fired. Any form of alcohol does not mix well at all with an anti depressant. you can die from this.

  5. I really think you should talk to your doctor. If you're worried about the bill, maybe you could call in and leave a message describing your symptoms, ask if you should be concerned or what, or do you need an appointment.
