Question:

Drinking in early pregnancy?

I just realized that before I found out I was pregnant (as this was not planned) I had a few drinks on occasion. I am not a drinker as it is, and when I do drink I will have no more than maybe 2. But I can think of one night where I drank a few drinks, and a couple others where I had one glass of wine, or 1 beer. I am worried! I know this would have been very early in my pregnancy as I am about 8 weeks now, and this would have been a month ago or more. Should I be worried about this? Of course after finding out, my diet has been super healthy with no alcohol or coffee!

  1. No don't worry. It isn't like you drank endless amounts of alcohol. Congrats on the little one.

  2. Millions of women drink lightly before they know they are pregnant.  Millions more continue to drink lightly during their pregnancy, and there is NO evidence of harm from an occassional, single drink or two.

    Don't give it another thought.

  3. No and you know that already quit looking for a pat on the back about your no alcohol or caffeine. Everybody knows that a drink or two before you find out you are pregnant does not harm anything.

  4. I felt the same way because i i didn't find out i was pregnant until i was 8 weeks at the end of January which means o pregnant all through the holidays and didn't know my doctor told me that whatever i did before i knew i was pregnant wasn't a big deal as long i was healthy from here on out. my doctor actually also told me that if i wanted to have a drink every once in a while it wouldn't hurt the baby either since FAS occurs in women who drink more than 3drinks at a time on a regular basis. however i am still to afraid to drink at all so i don't. But don't worry about it since you cant change the past you can always make u p for it in the future. Good Luck with your baby

  5. i read in a book dont worry about the things you did before you found out you were pregnant because you cant take them back just stay healthy from here on out

  6. Don't stress, unless you were binge drinking (5 or more drinks) I wouldn't be concerned at all.  Everyone is different but I know a lot of people who drank untill they were 3 or 4 months pregos because they didn't know it, and they were drinking heavily and their little ones are fine.

  7. Don't worry, I was the same, I didn't know i was pregnant until my period didn't arrive and prior to that I had a couple of heavy nights out drinking! (It was xmas and new year!)  My baby was fine. You just need to make sure you don't drink more alcohol from now on in your pregnancy and definitely don't get drunk! Which I am sure you will not be doing anyway. Have a look into fetal alcohol syndrome on the net, you will prob be reassured that your 2 drinks here and there have done no huge damage. And don't listen to any OTT preaching about how its wrong to drink alcohol EVER!

  8. My husband had cancer a few years back, and we were told we wouldn't be able to have any more kids. So I drank and smoked(cigarettes!). I drank a lot at my brother's birthday party. About a week later, I found out I was pregnant. I stopped everything. My son was 7lbs 7oz and is a happy and very healthy two year old now.

**Someone is giving out pats on the back for no caffeine? Hook me up, I didn't have any with either of my pregnancies(once I knew, of course!)

  9. I went through the same thing. I went to a frat party, got completely wasted, came home and drank more. Several days later, I learned I was pregnant with my daughter. She is 6 now, and is perfect in every sense of the word! If you continued to drink throughout your pregnancy, that is when you should worry. Good luck and congrats!
