Drinking in ireland age limit?

i am 17 and will be turning 18 in september.

at the end of july i will be going to ireland.

what is the drinking age,basically we will be touring all over and one place will be guinness,and heard that they give out free pints and so on. are they very strict with age limit,and since its a tour that they will be giving it out what do you think the chances are they will say something,thanks.

Your best bet is to get drunk before you hit the pubs, or just smuggle some drink in with you... Although your a tourist so I wouldn't really recommend it... maybe if your desperate.

It is confusing b/c the legal age to buy alcohol is 18 but some nightclubs require that you are 21, sometimes 23. Maybe b/c they have more than booze? You can go to most local pubs before 6:30 but can't drink. Guinness would surely check your I.D.  They accept Driver's Licenses and passports as acceptable I.D.

It really depends if you look a little older than you are. In regards to the Guinness thing, I assume you mean visting Guinness's Brewery (which by the way, as a local resident of the area where the Brewery is, I would definitely recommend it to any tourist/visitor), they give you a free pint at the end of your tour, as I said once you dont look really young, you'll be fine.

In regards to pubs and clubs, most clubs in the bigger cities/towns are quite strict so without I.D you would be very lucky to get in. You will have a better chance in pubs, really I cant see you having a problem. I was getting served in a lot of pubs in Dublin city centre way before I was 18.

Also, Guinness is a bit of an acquired taste, so by all means have one or two while visiting the brewery, but make sure to try Bulmers Cider (not the cider you're used to in the states), It is stronger than a lot of beers/lagers so just be careful how much you drink.

Really sorry, but unless you are 18, you basically have no chance in getting into bars/clubs

I cant tell you how many times i tried and failed with my friends to get into places when i was younger

I know Ireland is renowned for its "drinking culture" but trust me, your chances are slim....theyre surprisingly strict here.

If you look 18 and have the necessary money you'll have no problems getting a drink anywhere in Ireland.

If you do a tour of the brewery Guinness will give you a glass( half a pint) of their finest brew.  It's an acquired taste, though.

You will be asked to prove your age, but you're almost 18 so if you act mature you might - MIGHT- get away with having a pint.

Free pints of Guinness? Where? The brewery? Well, yes, that's common practice in brewery tours. You'll pay through the nose to actually get into the brewery tour, so those pints won't work out so free after all.

Besides, Guinness is disgusting.

The legal age is 18. Believe me if your underage its tough to get into clubs and pubs. Because there's such a huge problem here with underage drinking - it's gone very strict especially in big towns & cities. You'll see that there'll be a bouncer on every pub door. Ireland is just all about drinking you know !! and Guinness is foul !!!  (just my opinion. !!)
