Question:

Drinking on a Royal Caribbean Cruise?

Hi, I am 20 years old, and am going on a Western Caribbean cruise through Royal Caribbean in March, and I was wondering if I am going to be able to drink? I will be 2 months away from the big 2-1! The website says that you must be 21 to drink on the ship, but I've heard otherwise.

Part 2: My boyfriend is 22 and we wanted to get him a drink card so he doesn't have to pay for every single drink. Is there such a thing? Or some kind of a deal? I remember there was one for Carnival.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

  1. All cruise ships have some sort of beverage card and as for you being 21 depending on where your going and I hate to say this they really dont care their not oging to ask you for ID so its not going to be a problem but you should be smart enough to know its against the law they odnt care because in some countries you can drink at age 16 and everything and its what your preference is I guess, I mean if you were in the states its illegal but since your on a cruise ship then its not but you should use your better judgement.

  2. Because of recent accidents on cruise ships, Royal Caribbean has recently changed their alcohol policy for people under 21.  As a side note, if you take a birthday cruise, and you are not 21 on the DATE OF SAILING then they don't serve you.  Also, while checking in, your Seapass card will have 2 holes punched in to indicate under 21.

  3. i dont think there is a drink card for adults, and no they will not allow you to drink even if you are only two months away it is the law but i am guessing if your boyfriend buys them no one will know how old you are because if you are only two months away you probably look twenty one so i wouldnt think anyone would ask.

  4. I went on a 7 day carnival cruise last year with my girlfriend that was 20 at the time. She did not get carded at all. We had to pay for all of our drinks but they did offer a soda card that only pays for soda drinks not alchol.

  5. i dont know about the whole 21 thing, but i do know you can buy coke cards were you get unlimited coke but i dont think you can get a one for alcohol

  6. Yep, you have to be at least 21 in order to drink alcohol on cruise ships.  In order to enforce this, the ship gives a different colored key card to those under 21.  You use the key card as a credit card on board.  They do not serve alcohol to the "under 21" key cards.  Of course, you could aways use the keycard of someone who is over 21, but if you get caught, the entire party could be put off the ship at the next port with no refunds.

As to a "drink card" - that is only for soft drinks.

  7. Drinks cards are only for soda.

If the website says 21, then you have to be 21.  Some cruises will allow 18 year olds to drink with the parent's permission however.  But, they must be traveling with the parent.

If you get caught drinking on the ship, you may be escorted off at the next port.  It will be your responsibility to get home from there.

You can drink while ashore at places that are not 21+, but you cannot bring alcohol back aboard with you.

    Have fun! : )

  8. Sorry I don't think you can drink being under 21. Maybe have your man bring something with him on the boat. Other then that I don't think you will be able to. Sorry! I love cruising but unfortunately they don't have a drink card only for soda. And no there is no kind of deal for alcoholic  drinks. I usually spend between 5 to 6 hundred dollars all week. I think Royal Caribbean is the the best cruise line. You will have a blast ..enjoy.

  9. RCCL does not allow drinking under the age of 21, however, you have to get caught to get in trouble. If you want to drink, take it to your room. You can be removed from the ship if they catch you.

Drink cards are only good for soda.
