  1. Combining EtOH with medications is not a good idea.

You can ask your pharmacist for verification.

  2. I am a pharmacist, so I'll try to answer your questions I'm not sure where you learned your information, but:

    1. Any alcohol consumption will increase the chance for liver damage when taking methotrexate. Limit your consumption to less than 2 drinks (2oz of alcohol, or 3-4 cheap beers) per *month*. Methotrexate is never used with people who drink regularly (or binge drink) unless they have a cancer which is life threatening. At the lower doses used for RA, it's still quite damaging.

    2. It doesn't matter how you consume alcohol (beer or vodka); they both still contain alcohol. It's just a numbers game.

12 oz of beer in a can with 3-4% alcohol is about half an ounce of alcohol.

1.5 oz (a shot) of vodka with 40% alcohol is also about half an ounce of alcohol.

You're still consuming the same amount of alcohol and still causing the same damage. If you absolutely have to drink, please call your doctor is you experience the following symptoms:  nausea, extreme tiredness, lack of energy, loss of appetite, pain in the upper right part of the stomach, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or flu-like symptoms.
