Yuck, to me anything smoking related is really a turn off. However, we all hear of stories that alcohol can kill in a one night assuming that the invidual grasping the glass or bottle is an irresponsible m**o! Obviously, long term exposure to smoking will eventually take you out. On the whole of it though, which makes you more stupid and potentially fatal?

  1. This question is to broad to properly assess, but I'll give it a go.

Alcohol will definately make you dumber over time.

It really depends on the individuals biochemical markers (dna), diet, sleep patterns, etc as far as which one will be more detrimental.

I think alcohol takes out more people on the whole then tobacco if you take into account the number of comas, drunk driving fatalities, and alcohol induced raged fighting, not to mention the diseases like heart disease and cancers.

  2. I don't think either makes you stupid! Life isn't just about worshipping Jesus and living to 96. For some prune women, perhaps, but most of us want to have some fun on the way. And sometimes that entails taking risks. Neither drinking nor smoking are particularly harmful in moderation, in fact moderate drinking can prolong life. There *is* a risk that when you try these things, your use will not be moderate, but most of us are willing to take at least some of those risks, because a majority of the adult population drinks or smokes.

But -- if you aren't moderate, what is the comparitive risk? I'd say drinking wins hands down, because it harms you in the prime of life, while smoking rarely does. No one ever lost their job and family or beat their wife because they smoked. And nobody ever OD'd or died from nicotine withdrawal the way you can die from alcohol. Towards the end of life, yes, smoking is more likely to kill you than alcohol -- four times as many people die from smoking-related diseases as from drinking-related ones (cancer, cirrhosis, etc.) -- but it matters less then, and at least it doesn't damage your life along the way.

  3. You can die of acute alcohol poisoning in one sitting.  I don't know if that is really possible to die of smoking a cig at a time over and over and over...  I suppose it is possible.

So I will say that alcohol will kill you faster, but watch out for smoking in the long term.

There are actually benefits to drinking alcohol in moderation.  There are no benefits to smoking (other than perhaps some protection against Alzheimer's).

    Hope that helps.

  4. If you run across the street for a pack of smokes and get run over by a beer truck,i would imagine it is equal.

  5. Many alcoholics die from cirrhosis as early as their 40s, often in their 50s. Alcohol abuse messes up your liver. The liver is pretty good at regenerating, but daily abuse takes a toll that cannot be overcome.

Lung cancer, typically, strikes people in their 60s and 70s when it is smoking related.

All in all, I'd give the nod to drinking.

  6. I'd say drinking will kill you faster.  You'll be drunk and doing crazy things.  Smoking, you'll probably get cancer which can take time.
