  1. Stay downtown Toronto.  There are a lot of hotels and plenty to do.  Go to the CN Tower and the Eaton Centre.  Then all you have is a two hour + drive to Niagara Falls depending on traffic.

  2. Drive as far as Woodstock or Brantford ON and stay in one of there fine hotels/motels then you follow the 403 to the loop at Burlington to the QEW Niagara and your in Niagara Falls in less than 2 hours, the best route from Detroit is threw Windsor and catch the 401 East bound, it is the fastest and safest route to the 403 East cutoff at Woodstock and stay there or Brantford 30 minute east, and continue the next morning to the Falls

  3. detroit to the falls, you will  be going down the 401 and cutting off onto the 403, take the hamilton link and then down the red-hill express to the qew niagara bound, if the kids can last that long in a car, just past the st Catherine's sky way bridge is the great wolf lodge, its a fantastic place for families with children, look them upon line, and if you stop there, you literally are 10-15 minutes away from niagara falls. If you decide to stay at the falls,i have had a lot of pleasure at the embassy suites hotel, its one very close to the canadian falls, and also has a keg restaurant built in on the9th floor.
