Question:

Drive test by appointment in California DMV?

I was told that you can just walk in and ask to take the behind-the-wheel driving test at the DMV, but I read on the website that you must make an appointment. I have two friends who said they just walked in without an appointment and were allowed to take the test, but they got their licenses a year ago. Problem is, I need my license before a classes start so I can get to school and the only available date for an appointment is a day after I start school when I'm in class.

So does anybody know if you can just walk in and take the test without making an appointment first? Please only answer if you or someone you know has walked in Without an appointment and taken the test recently.

  1. You can only get a walk in if somebody canceled and there was an opening, otherwise you're sol.  If I were you, I would call dmv and explain the situation.  Maybe they can squeeze you in before you start classes.

  2. well first of all, you take behind-the-wheel classes after you get your permit and before you get your license.

Second, I'm nearly positive you need to make an appointment for any kind of test you plan to take at the DMV. Maybe your friends just got lucky, you know? My sister had to make appointments as did I.

    Hope I helped!
