Question:

Drive thru windows (fast food & stores) vs. walking in.Should they be outlawed to save enviroment & gas usage?

going to a drive thru normally takes about 10 minutes from start to finish on a non busy day. Think about how much gas and emmissions into the enviroment we could be saving. Could stopping & outlawing drive thru windows over time lower our price per gallon of gas?

  1. Don't like abortion?  Don't have one.

Don't like drive thru windows?   Don't use them.

Don't like hypocrites?   Don't be one.

  2. Well: according to an good idea but no basicly we'd must

" Conserve our Fule and reduce Smog Emissions by keeping

Restruants, Grocery Stores ect open for Customer's Business every day also it's very important today as told from

the State Department of Environmental Health Service has

know about our Clean Air Bill of Health Program in  which they did out law Smoking cigaretts among public Places only "

  3. No, I think more fuel is wasted on the highway in traffic jams.  Most of the time I get thru a drive thru in about 3 minutes.  If your drive thru has more than 3 cars in it, shut down and go inside.  You will get your stuff faster.

  4. I don't know which fast food place takes 10 minutes. I wouldn't call that fast.

It burns more gas to stop and start your car when you walk in.

2-3 minutes tops for my fast food places.

  5. I think a great inducement to go inside would be to increase prices at the window, then donate the additional money to environmental groups.  This would give the consumer an incentive to get off their fat azz and walk into the restaurant, or feel like they're making a difference if they choose to sit in line.

Maybe a 50 cent charge on every purchase, or 10% of the cost of the food.

I agree, sitting in drive through lines is wasteful and no faster than going in.  My wife and I bicker constantly over my parking and walking in.  I grew up in the time before drive up windows existed and find them aggravating.

There's nothing that gets me more angry than when I'm driving down the road and find the cashier messed up my order.  When I'm at the counter, I can watch them assemble my meal and correct any mistakes right there.  Try checking your meal at a window, the people behind you will probably push you forward!!

That being said, you can't outlaw them, it would get shot down in court, as a violation of commerce laws.

  6. yes and we should also make a law requiring the place people are eating to turn off it's lights in the day time.  We should also outlaw the AC it uses too much energy.  Then we should outlaw hot water b/c it takes energy.  Then we should outlaw driving unless it's for business.  This would save us lots of oil. Then we should outlaw planes b/c they use energy.  We should also outlaw ship and boats because they use energy too.  Oh I know, we should turn off the cities' power plants at night too this would save energy too.  Who cares if people don't like these ideas, we're trying to save the world, right?  If we don't do these things we will die.

  7. They should be outlawed so people will exercise more....

  8. no. it takes more gas to keep startin ur car then it does to let it idle for a minute

  9. To answer your question, NO, it will not lower gas prices, although it may improve other things.  Even that tad bit of exercise.

  10. I agree with the previous posters, you would never be able to outlaw something like a drive thru, no more than you can outlaw fast-food itself.  People will make their choices based on price and value.

An idea to make a difference- start a trend!  Go inside and then brag to your friends how fast it was!  Tell everyone how much time/money/effort you saved just by taking the few steps inside!

  11. Not in America since America is a free country.

  12. Actually when the drive thru was created it was for our handicap people that struggle to get in and out of vehicles. Boy did it ever catch on beyond any wildest imagination. Now even Starbucks is on the band wagon. What people don't know is when you use the drive thru you never get the freshest of the food. You could get something that was ordered wrong and had been sitting for over 30 mins.

People shouldn't be so lazy and yes you can save gas by shutting the car off and go inside to place your order. save the drive thru's for the handicap.

  13. the whole restaurant should be outlawed for making people obese.

  14. This is not a stupid question. Every society governs itself based on what it or it's leaders think is best for it.

Drive thru's burn more gas than a car parked in the parking lot. It would mean we would all have to slow our pace down and get more exercise.

  15. No the government should not regulate drive thru windows, what would be next, no in store dinning? Drive thru windows help prevent injury to Handicapped individuals  and parents of  small children.

Nothing is going to lower gas price over time. We have reached the peak at available oil.  We know where all the major oil deposits are on the planet and as they become empty the price will keep getting higher.

  16. They should be outlawed. Are people in such a rush that they can't take five minutes to go into a store?

I go to a coffee shop and often have to wait in a long line because all but one attendant is waiting on customers in the drive-by. If only they would just get coffee, but they get food too. It's not fair to walk-in clients.

Maybe allow them for bikes only, lol.

  17. I can't believe that you would even come up with such a stupid idea. People can be conservative and help save the enviroment without going off the deep end. People often go through the drive through because it is faster to get their food that way. It is convenient because they don't have to get out of their vehicle. I have worked in several fast food places when I was younger. Food isn't allowed to sit around for 30 minutes like someone else here mentioned. There are timer plates kept by the food and it is thrown out every so often. I believe around 15 minutes. A lot of times when you go through the drive through, they end up having to make your food up fresh. That is why you have to wait. You don't get your food faster by going inside. The orders come and go in the same order that they arrived.

The auto industry has come along way with reducing emmisions from vehicles. A lot of people are driving more of these efficient vehicles. So, I really don't think that a few vehicles waiting in fast food lines with their vehicles still running will make too much difference on pollution. It wastes more gas when people constantly turn their cars on and off to move through a line.

Maybe instead of coming up with such extreme ideas to force down everyone's throat, you should stop and think deeply about yourself and what YOU can do differently. Do you recycle? Do you only buy products that are recycable? Are you using hairsprays and other things that can hurt the ozone? Chances are when you are honest about it, you are really not doing as much as you could to cut down on the pollution.

So no, outlawing drive throughs will not lower the cost of gas. Because you are still traveling the same distance to get to the fast food place to begin with. And when your vehicle is only idling for a few minutes, it doesn't waste hardly any gas if any at all. So therefore, the price of gas will not lower just because of this.

I also want to add one more thing. Some places would actually lose business if they shut down their drive through windows. This is because many fast food places have small parking lots. So if the parking lot was full, they would have to drive off and find some other place to eat. Did you think about that?

  18. No

    not the solution

  19. No, but I do think that the drive through companies should put up signs that say turn off your car while you are wating in line, or something similar...
