  1. u will get a fine and possibly the car impounded.

what u could do is buy a 6 months tax disc incase it takes a while to sell it.

or if you are tradeing it in take the discout the car and send it back to the dvla for a refund

  2. you will be fined and have points on your licence.  Your insurance will be invalid if you haven't got tax.  None of us like having to pay out for it, but the vast majority of us do so. Don't be tight.  You can put the price up by a bit, to recoup the cost.

  3. you'll get done and they can take the car off you now

  5. You get a fine for having no tax. If it is out for more than 3 months they can take the car off of you

  6. Yes you will get points. You will also have the car impounded and you will have to pay far more than the tax to get it released. You are usually given 14 days to pay to have the car realeased and to get the tax or the car will be crushed. Simple as.

Oh and one other thing. If the car is not taxed, then the dvla already know and you will be getting a fine through the post soon which will increase the longer you dont pay for it

  7. UK...it get recoverd by the police [£105 plus £12 per day]

    £80 fine for no tax

plus your charged backtax [eg if its not been taxed for 1 year, you pay that also...

    3 points on your licence

    your insurance is STILL VALID.

  8. they will take it and crush it

  9. Beware even if you are not driving the car and the police or dvla spot it untaxed it will be clamped and possibly towed away which will in-cure storage charges on top of the cost of the tax not to mention having to provide all necessary documentation adding further charges so don't be fooled into thinking it's safe when not driving.

Take my advice just get the car taxed it will save you a whole load of trouble. : )

  10. If you haven't renewed the tax by the 14th day of the month, you will automatically get an £80 fine in the post.

  11. The car will be impounded until you tax it and you will have to pay the towing and storage fees as well as the tax.

  12. There's a lot of myth and misunderstanding about this. You will receive a hefty penalty, you will not receive points, it's an excise offence, not a "driving" offence.

The fact that you "really don't want to buy road tax" won't wash, mate. None of us want to buy it, but we have to. Tough.

  13. depends where you are

some police forces have a zero tolerance and impound the car.. and

either sell it to raise funds or if it has near zero value crush it.

some police forces will impound the car and release it on proof of tax

some police forces may give you a fixed penalty ticket

    ..all will issue a fine....

having insurance is irrelevant... you need road tax as well. In eality even having th eroad tax but failing to display it is an offence

if you don't have road tax then you must declare the road SORN (off road), but if you declare the vehicle off road (and therefore not liable to road tax) then its seen on the raods its a bigger fine

  14. They will crush your car. In addition if you have no tax your insurance will be void-----------BIG FINES and points.

  15. you will get done! your insurance won't be valid unless you are taxed and MOTed.

most likely nine points and a fine from the magistrates.

so make sure you don't see the police. also, dvla vans drive around estates looking for cars declared sorn, but still on the parked on the road. clamp and fine. tax it asap, will be far cheaper in the long run

  16. dont kid yourself, you are NOT insured!

if you really don't want to fork out on tax because you are selling it then stop driving it and declare SORN.......however, a full years road tax may up it's value and make it more saleable (worth a thought!)

  17. Think about it another way:

If your car is taxed then it is going to be lot easier to sell as the purchaser does not have to worry about driving it home untaxed. You can always state that the unused tax will be added to the sale price of the car.

In the UK you are only allowed to drive an untaxed car to and from a pre-arranged MOT test.

If you have just bought a car and are taking it home and get stopped then the police may well be sympathetic and let you off with a warning.

In your case, however, you are taking a bit of a liberty. You are at risk of a hefty fine.

  18. Let's face it,  You're just a bloody liability.

  19. Most of the guys on this thread havnt a clue what they are talking about. You will get the car inpounded, and your insurance will be invalid. You will NOT get your licence taken off you nor will yiu get points.

  20. Withour road tax your insurance is invalid.  You would end up losing your licence.

  21. I'm afraid all cars without tax are on a data base and apparently you get a fine through the post of £80 now.  You would have had to declare it SORN and if you did but still drive the car its a £1000 penalty. There's no escape!  Also if you have an accident it makes your insurance invalid, so if in the worst case scenario you killed someone it could end up in a prison sentence.  Best to get it taxed, it will sell better anyway.

  22. The police may stop you and give you a fine, or leave a notice on your car.  From the DVLA website:

"For clamped vehicles the release penalties are £80. In addition, a valid vehicle tax disc must be produced before the vehicle can be recovered. If a tax disc cannot be produced, a surety (£120 for a car or motorcycle, up to £600 for other vehicles) must be paid before the vehicle can be released. The surety payment is forfeited if a valid vehicle tax disc is not produced within two weeks. Failure to purchase a valid vehicle tax disc could mean that the vehicle is clamped again and again."

The police also have the power to take and crush untaxed cars.
