Driver Vs. Fungo bat?

My friend and i have a $200 bet. He says that he can hit a golf ball further with his driver than i can hit a golf ball with my fungo bat. He was a D1 college golfer and i am a D1 college baseball player. What do you think?

I've played both sports, not at the D1 level though.  I've never tried it, but I'd put my money on the driver going longer.

the longest center field wall in the majors is 435' Minute Maid Park.  the competitors in the long drive competitions average 400 yards (1200').  even with the fungo, I think you're gonna get smoked.  sorry.

I bet on the driver. If you figure he can hit it 340 yards,that'll

be hard to chase with the bat.

You lose.  The length of the golf club and the flex of the shaft alone will propel a ball much further than the stiff, short fungo bat.  Yeah, the fungo is going to have more pop than a regular bat, and a golf ball will fly much farther than a baseball under the same conditions, but a driver is built to provide the optimum trajectory and spin to hit the golf ball as far as possible.  A fungo bat is not...its for hitting practice grounders and fly balls.  Once again, you lose.

Its all about speed...

A D1 Golfer should be able to swing the driver @ approximately 110 - 120 mph.  Ken Griffey averages around 90-95.

I think I am going to have to go with the Bat. I mean, you are hitting a Golf ball, not a base ball, I think the shear force of the Bat hitting the ball will cause it to go further, I think the Bat will beat the driver. Plus, not every hit with a golf club is going to be a good one, he might top it, or hit into some trees.

I fungoid a golf ball roughly 170/200 yards a long time ago. My current drive is 200+. I think you will come up short. P.S. Your only chance is to replicate the scene in the movie "Tin Cup". Costner hit his ball on the range, Johnston turned around and hit his ball down the paved road and it just kept rolling and rolling........................
