  1. A driver is by far the toughest club to hit, so I wouldnt be discouraged.   With irons, you hit down on the ball in order to 'pinch' it against the turf so it 'squirts' up.   That part is easy, but tough to do consistantly.

With woods, you want to catch the ball with the clubhead just slightly starting to come up from its arc.   Also, the shallowness of the woods(drivers are from 8 to 11 degrees of loft) makes them less forgiving.

You need to have a strong grip (meaning turning the hands to the right at address for righthanders, and take the club back to the inside more to correct the slice.  Also try dropping your back foot a few inches; this also promotes an inside - out swing which helps avoid slicing.

Lastly, if you have a high swing speed, your wood shafts may be too 'whippy', with means they bend too much at impact.   Have your local golf pro check you out and you'll find the answer much quicker.

  2. if u are topping ur 3 wood u mite b swinging 2 hard and just move the ball back in ur stance and swing nice and easy

  3. Without seeing your swing, it's impossible to identify your problem definitively.  However, I can tell you what the symptoms you describe indicate.

When someone can hit his irons well but drives the ball short and right (this is especially true if you're slicing it; you didn't make clear if you were pushing, slicing or both), if often means that his angle of attack is too steep.  With the irons, especially the short ones, this isn't too much of a liability.  Sure, you may lose a bit of distance and solidity of hit, but the difference may be almost imperceptible to all but high level players.  As you move toward the longer clubs, however, your ball-striking will be increasingly compromised; the loss of distance, accuracy and solidity will be more pronounced.  And, with the driver especially, hitting it well will be impossible.

I wouldn't listen to the people who are offering advice such as to strengthen your grip and close your stance.  If your grip is currently correct, to follow such a prescription would be attempting to correct a flaw with a flaw.  You need to identify the problem -- make the right diagnosis -- and then prescribe the correct cure.

As I said, my bet is that you're angle of attack is too steep.  You need to have someone with a trained eye evaluate your swing, or do it yourself with a video camera if you have a trained eye.

  4. the reason is that your driver and 3 wood are the longest clubs you have. as a result it is harder to hit them straight. the reason you have a huge slice with the driver and 3 wood is probably because you are bringing the club back too far and you are trying to kill the ball. take the clubs back about 3/4 of your swing and swing easy. that should solve your problem.

  5. Your swing shouldn't be different for any of your clubs.  You are able to square your clubface at impact with your irons, so do the same thing with your woods.  The only difference is ball placement and length of the clubs.

  6. When problem solving in golf improvement, keep it simple. By complicating adjustments, you can very easily make a problem worse. From your information, my guess, you are open at address swinging outside in creating either a slice or straight push and 'swinging to hard'. Actually, you have the answer in your question. Next time you are at the range, tee up three balls next to each other. Hit the first with you normal wedge, next, hit a 5 iron with the exact same swing and finally hit the third ball with your driver with the same swing speed and tempo you hit the other two with. Same with your 3 wood. After a little practice, you will be hitting your driver square, straight and much farther than you might think. Take note of a good players swing. Consistant, smooth repetition on every full swing. That's what you are looking for to really improve your game and confidence. A teacher once told me, if you can't control your golf swing, you cannot control your game.

    Hope this might help

  7. You might be swinging to hard therefore you are not getting the proper hip rotation and release and leaving the club face open with leads to a balloon slice.

  8. Take it back on the Back swing a little slower and follow through really fast, it might be the driver but it might not. Transfer your weight throughout the shot, on your backswing you want your wait on your right foot (if your right handed) and on your follow through you want your weight on the left foot.
