Question:

Driver question for my golf game...? 10 pts for best!?

ok, I hit an Cleveland Launcher 460 Comp 8.5 degree driver. I was steered toward an 8.5 degree driver by someone who is really good. I play bogey golf and really liked this driver at first. Over the last year I have seen my drives (which used to go about 250) now only go about 100-150. They go in a straight line but never really get going off the ground. They take off and nose dive. I am not topping it and feel the ball is in the right part of my stance. Could it be that I need to get a new driver that has a higher degree of loft on it? If so 9.5, 10, or 10.5?

Recommendations?

  1. an 8.5 loft is a tough driver to hit.  If you're a bogey golfer, you probably score around 90 for a round of golf.  I'd recommend a 10 or 10.5 lofted driver.  Probably 90% of all amateur golfers hit 10.5.

  2. if all ur clubs are going low get a lesson. if its just ur driver try getting a 10.5 degree driver at least. also i would test a few different club with different lofts to see how high each goes and select the club from that. also check the flex of the shaft and ensure your have the right flex and kick point. if the shaft is too strong or the kick point too high in the club it can cause you to hit the ball low.

    good luck

  3. Move the ball back if that dont work go with a 10.5 degree.

  5. How are your irons playing?  Are you hitting them like normal? I always go back to the basics if my driver is off.

You say the ball is nosediving so you are creating forward spin on the ball.  You may not be topping it but you are not making solid contact.  I agree with the previous answer that you should move the ball back in your stance.  I would move it 1/2 inch at a time towards the center of your stance.  You may have some swing flaw that could be causing this as well.

Video yourself or get a lesson from an instructor.

Good Luck and hope this helps.

  6. Losing 100 yards off the tee is a good sign for hitting the ball above center. First off try teeing the ball higher. The nose dive is the indicator.

Get longer tees than what you have. With today's' drivers, you need to tee higher.

Check out the attached web address about tee height.

Now about you driver's 8.5 degree angle. This is a better golfers driver.

I would switch to a 10 or 10.5 degree driver. This will allow for more ball flight and help straighten any hooks or slices.

    But it's a personal preference.

  7. Move the ball back in your stance about 2 inches before you buy a new driver.

  8. no no dont buy a new driver if you want to get the ball off the ground and get your distance back then try this

    1. put the tee where its pretty high it the air

    2. put the ball on it haha you know

3.put the ball in front of your stance

4.when you line the club head up to the ball... dont put in right in the middle of your chest (sternem)

    5.bomb away from your sternem

i swear this really works im 13 shoot a 90 on a regulation course and hit about 218 ever since i discovered this trick i use a 9.5 degree driver and this gave me some lift and distance. HOPE THIS TIP WORKS FOR YOU TOO.

  9. when it comes to the trajectory of your shot, it all depends on wieght transfer.  Try kepping your nose behind the ball which will make you hit the ball higher. Then if all else fails test out a more lofted driver

  10. I find that 8.5 degree drivers are really difficult to hit because there is not enough loft on them. To get more loft try this at the driving range only not on the course: switch around ball position in your stance bring it foward a little and see if that might be the problem. Also check for any dents is the sole of the driver. Look for blemishes on the face of the driver. Dont go outand buy a $300-400 driver when the drivers not the problem. Try also taking a lesson or two from a PGA teaching proffessional at your local course. I took four lessons and i found the remedy to my golf game they are really good and are a big help.

I hope this helps your game.

  11. Have you really lost that much confidence in your Driver? When a trend become apparent over the course of a year it can be very difficult to make a change. The Golf industry solves problems by trying to make you buy something new. "That will fix it!" they say. I don't think so.

What I do when I loose confidence in my driver is to go to my 3 wood off the tee for a series of rounds and pay close attention to the sucess I am having. My timing, my stance, my address. As my confidence grows I go to the range and try to duplicate that same feeling with my my driver.  I then reintroduce my driver into my game on select holes. Holes that have a large margin for error, then put into motion what I was working on. I do not give up on my investment. In your case I am sure that club cost a pretty penny! Don't give up on it, just work on it.

    Hit'em straight

  12. An issue like that probably won't be cured by a degree or two change.  My best guess is that your swing is catching the ball on the upswing and putting topspin on the ball.  If you can't solve it yourself, consult a pro, they will be able to help.
