Drivers Ed?!? I need help!! Do I take drivers ed first and then get a permit?

Iam 14 and I'am about to turn 15 next week on the 18th (I live in NC). Do I take drivers ed first and then after that I will be able to get my permit or do I get a permit first and then take drivers ed???? Also my mom said after I turn 15 she can just take me to the DMV. But is it better to take drivers ed in high school or just go ahead and do it when iam 15?? I need help and iam kinda confused about all of this. Also what exactly do you do in drivers ed?? How do you get a permit?? Help me please I need all of the information before I turn 15!! THANKS!!

Hi!! You have to take drivers ed first, the after you do your driving part in drivers ed you get a certificate that says you passed the class, you then take that certificate and all the other forms you need to the DMV and you take your permit test.  You can't get your permit without taking drivers ed first. I also live in NC.

each state is different.  Where I live you can get your permit 1st.  But in order to to take driver's ed, you MUST have a permit.  Call your local DMV and they'll be able to tell you the laws for your state.  In driver's ed, you have class time and driving time.
