Drivers’ Quotes before Hungary Grand Prix
The teams are excited and thrilled as they enter the twelfth race of the season, the Hungarian Grand Prix. Friday’s practice session had been a good one for the drivers as there were no untoward incidents on the tough and tricky track.
After the two practice sessions drivers talked to the Formula One Official Website about their experience of the day:
Sebastian Vettel:
He glowed and glared at the track brighter than anybody else as he was able to lead both the practices right from the front. At the end of the day he said that despite the fact he had been very quick, McLarens are always quicker on the race day than the practice sessions. Moreover, he said that Ferrari are very quick and he would need to keep working hard to stay at the top of all others in this race as the track is also a difficult one with a lot of bumps and rough patches.
Mark Webber:
He ended the first session in 2nd position and he finished 3rd in the second session, showing the great pace that the Red Bull car now has. He said, “That was pretty good - we got through everything we wanted”.
Though he was happy that the car ran faultlessly, he added that he found the Ferraris very quick and he is really concerned.
Vitaly Petrov:
For the Renault driver the second practice session was particularly good as he secured the fifth place of the day. On his return he said, “It was a good day of practice and I found a good balance with the car. I know this track well and, with the updates we have here, the car feels much better”.
The car had been improved for the race and also on Friday morning the team had the basic set-up work done while later in the afternoon they tried some new parts like the new rear wing with improved down force.
Robert Kubica:
Kubica, the Renault driver who finished the two sessions at seventh and thirteenth places said that, “It was a fairly normal Friday for us. We tried to get as much information as we could and we were quite lucky with the weather because I think there was quite a lot of rain close to the track, but we got away with two dry sessions, which was what we needed.”
Rain showers were expected but luckily for the teams, conditions remained dry.
Rubens Barrichello:
Though he expected better results than fifth place in the morning and then twelfth in the afternoon, all was not bad with the Williams car. At the end of the day he said, “My day went well and we managed to finish plenty of comparative tests which are important for the weekend”.
He added that all he hoped for now was to start the race from a front grid position for which he plans to work hard in qualifying.
Michael Schumacher:
The Mercedes driver was able to finish the first practice at ninth while the second at tenth place proclaiming, "Today we saw two sessions where neither the long runs nor the single laps were looking particularly good. We are not up to the speed that we normally are on Fridays”.
He elaborated that the car does not look very good on this track so far. However, he added that the team is looking at the data closely to see what can be done to improve the pace.
