I'm going to turn 18 next month, and I wanted to know IN DETAIL what I have to do.......

I know that under 18 you have to get a permit and all of that, but my parents keep telling me I have to get one before I turn 18 and get my license, that doesn't sound too right for me.....

anyway, I don't know if when I turn 18 I can get it right away, (do the written and driving test right away), like could i just walk into the DMV, tell them I'm 18, and need to take my written test or something?

please tell me in full detail?!

thank you guys so much!!! really!!!!!

Depending on your state, you might have to wait 6 months (or more) between step 3 and step 6.

    Good Luck...

P.S. These are NOT optional.  You must complete all steps - Especially the permit .

  2. For the most part, at 18 all you have to do is go to the DMV, prove who you are, fill out the application, pay the fee and pass their tests and you can get a driver's license. at 18 you do not your parents to sign for you.

To prove who you are you will have to go to your states DMV website and see what they require.

I don't know what state you're in, but just go to google and put in your state with DMV next to it. The first or 2nd link will be your DMV and the third will usually be 'The Unofficial Guide to the XX DMV' (XX being the state you put into google). If you can't find the info at the official DMV site, the Unofficial one is pretty easy.

For example, go to http://www.dmv.org/ca-california/apply-l... and scroll down about 1/4 way to "Class C, Older Than 18", and it gives you the requirements in California.

If you live with your parents, as soon as you get your license their insurance co will find out and send them a bill to include you as an insured for their car(s). If you won't be driving their cars, you can tell them so and you won't have to be added.

    Good luck. Drive safe.

  3. Just go to this site since I dont know where you are from and look up your state so that you get the correct information and good luck............

    http://www.dmv.org

  4. I dont know if the driving laws vary from state to state, but here in Georgia I know that if you're 18 and you haven't gotten your learners permit yet, then you can take the written and physical driving exams and get your full license then and there. You'll probably have to have certain documents with you, but that's about it I think. Try http://www.dmv.org . They know everything =D.

    Hope this helps.

  5. Since you're 18, you can just take the test without doing that other c**p so get ur license!!!!!

  6. No even though you are eighteen you must still go to your DMV and take the written test for your permit. Since you are legal age you will not need to have record any hours of driving time but practice always helps! You will also need to hold your permit for a specific amount of time. Check with your local DMV it might be six months or less or it may be a year. After that you can take the test for your driver's license which in my area can be taken by appointment only. After this you will get your temp license and your actual card will be mailed to you. Special restrictions will still apply to you until you have held your license for at least one year. Good luck!

  7. it depends on where you live... get one of the booklets they give you or even look at the website

  8. you have to get a permit and to get that i had to have a yearbook a letter from the social security office with my number(or your card) the voter registration card, my moms id and that was it kind of g*y then you take the written then you drive a while then you get your liscence

  9. My husband is from Europe and moved to the states with me.  When he got his license here, he just went in, took the written test and the road test and got his license right then and there.  yes, he had a license from his home country, but they never asked about it and they never saw it.

I don't think you have to get the permit first, but it's handy to get if you want to practice before you take the test.

  10. I'm 24 and I don't have my license.  However, I did try,

    Took the written passed

    Got my permit

go in the week after and get your license.

I didn't get mine because I don't really like driving, and I find it unnecessary since I live centerally 10 mins. away from where I could possibly need to go.

  11. I was 26 when I finally went for my license (long story). You can get a permit at any age so you can go out and practice before taking the final driving test.

  12. Your age is irrelevant. Whether you are 16, 18 or 57, you have to follow the same steps. The only thing that exempts you from having to get a learner's is having a foreign license (not from any country, just certain ones like Canada, UK, France, etc).
