Not all drivers but some

When i'm crossing or about to cross a zebra crossing with my baby, why do some drivers speed past when they should stop?

This makes me so furious because it's dangerous for my baby in the pram

  1. What ever happened to pedestrians having the right of way?

I watch people every day speed right by the crosswalks and not pay any attention to people trying to cross.

People you are supposed to STOP when you see someone trying to cross the road in front of a store, but people are in such a big hurry that they cant wait 5 seconds for someone to cross. no common courtesy anymore................................

  2. i dont

if i see somebody approaching the crossing, i ALWAYS slow down, whether they use it or not

    its dangerous and stupid

    x*x

  3. I see people jaywalking with their babies all the time, and that annoys me a lot more.

  4. cos some drivers(not all) think they rule the road, i drive for a living and see things everyday which make me wonder how some people are allowed on the road!

  5. I'm with TallPaul on this one!

  6. all I say is watch out.

  7. Pull the pram be hind you so you go first. I wouldn't  speed up any way, I would stop for you.

  8. You should only cross when it is safe to do so, you shouldn't just step out because you are at a zebra crossing. Cars can only stop when it is safe to do so. It's all about everyone being a little more considerate of one another.

  9. Some drivers are idiots.

Then again though some pushcahir users are too (not meaning you).  You see them all the time when your driving around.  Push chairs and prams poking out behind parked vans onto the road, presumably these people think that they'ed rather sacrafice their child to traffic rather than themsleves.

  10. did you know that it works both ways,

ie if a car is on the zig zag lines before you get there, you should not even think about crossing

    Hi way code for walkers

  11. Because they are ignorant inconsiderate turds who should get their car crushed with them still in it.

  12. Never trust that a driver will stop at a zebra crossing always wait until both ways have stopped.

The same if you are a driver -never trust another persons indicators (that is when they bother to use them) it seems to be out of fashion lately.

  13. Because some people are @$$holes and think it is funny when there should be a camera to photograph there license plate at crossings and get their license revolked for wreckless driving.

  14. Because a lot of drivers are idiots. When some get into their cars a different sort of mentality comes over them and they think that they own the road. I'm afraid there's nothing you personally can do about it, apart from maybe reporting it to an MP or something in your area. You just have to be extra careful and just because there's a zebra crossing there it doesn't mean it's safe to cross.

  15. i drive a lorry  when ever possible i'll stop at a zebra crossing

given that i've had time too

for instance i see many people that just step onto the crossing without looking iether way or waiting first

given the time it takes to stop a lorry this can be very frustrating,

i see a lot of car drivers just racing through the crossings without regard for anyone

only one word for them i'm affraid

  16. Josh, Lovebein is not neccessarily in Australia, they have prams and zebra crossings in the UK aswell.

But to answer the question, it is because a lot of drivers are bullies who do not know the rules of the road (especially SUV/pick up drivers). They are also in too much of a hurry to stop and wait for mere pedestrians.

In Alberta, is now illegal to go across a crossing whilst there is a pedestrian on it (they must wait until it is completely clear). It is a $514 fine, but I do not know how many fines have been handed out.

I've almost been hit on numerous times and infact some cretin did a 'u' turn and followed me shouting abuse, when I shouted at him, about being fined $500+, after he missed me by 18".

But that stopped when I walked behind his vehicle and pretended to write his license plate # down.

  17. because they only care about themselves I'm afraid

  18. because they are dangerous idiots who should have there licence taken off them!

  19. Believe me, i definately stop! there are horrible people out there that just dont follow basic rules.

  20. We're under no obligation to stop until you have 'claimed' the crossing.Until you're ready to cross by putting your foot on first, keep the pram behind you, don't use it as a probe onto the zebra.Once you're on the crossing, only inconsiderate t-ssers drive over it.

  21. Because it is not a legal requirement to stop at a crossing...

UNLESS someone is actually on the crossing at the time..

  22. because in keeping with the current trend,,,,90 per cent of "drivers"could not drive a nail into a piece of wood,

the last time they read the hiway code was when they passed the test,

however with all the immigrants(where i live 57 per cent of motorists have no insurance)a crash is out of the question then!!!

my personal "favourite" is "when entering or approaching a road junction the motorist MUST give way to pedestrians who are crossing OR who are about to cross"

motorists now are quite content to run u over while u are crossing a road.

    its now all self!self!self!

  23. Yeah, please don't be one of those Mums who pushes the pram out in an attempt to get the traffic to stop.

  24. dont push the pram into the road before you step into the road then.

  25. There is a significant proportion of cars being driven by un-licensed, un-insured and untaxed drivers, if they don,t care about this, they are not going to care about the other rules of the road.

Report any vehicle you see on the road without a current tax disc.

  26. Young and older mums are nearly all guilty of pushing the pram on to the road first , at least 5 inches and its us drivers who have to watch the road, watch the pedestrians and the traffic lights and other things and then we see a man/woman pushing a pram with the pram face facing the road and in most cases they are on the road already. I think you have asked a great question and this will hopefully bring awareness forward to some who have not thought of this before, good one.

  27. Geez, there are some stupid answers to this question. Quote from the good old Highway Code here in Blighty:

"Zebra crossings. As you approach a zebra crossing:

    (1) look out for pedestrians waiting to cross and be ready to slow down or stop to let them cross

(2)you MUST give way when a pedestrian has moved onto a crossing

(3)be aware of pedestrians approaching from the side of the crossing"

Have read this a few times now, and it still doesn't say "when you see a pedestrian getting close to the crossing, spedd up so that you get there first".

Pedestrians tend to be slightly less solid than most cars, which is at least one good reason for giving them a fighting chance of reaching the other side of the road....

  28. Your australian arent you? My wife is from australia.. zebra cossing, prams... thats the funniest things I have ever heard! Oh, and yea its bad for people to do that..
