  1. Your Australian driver's license, in connection with an international driving license, is good to go for driving while in the United Arabian Emirates for tourist purposes.

If you plan for longer stay on a work or residence permit, a UAE driving license will be issued without any tests required, based on the possession of an Australian license.

  2. If you are a tourist, you can drive rental cars with your Australian Licence. You can't "make" it international. You can get an International Driving Permit (IDP) but that's not a licence, it's just a piece of paper (or booklet) that says you have a driving licence from your home country.

Driving someone else's private car as a tourist is a bit of a grey area, you'll hear all sorts of stories. The safe way to go is get a temporary driving licence from the Dubai Traffic Police, and double check with the owner's insurance company.

If you are a resident, once you get a residence permit you have to get a Dubai driving licence, which is easy by showing your Australian licence. You're not allowed to drive on a foreign licence or IDP.

  3. you need to cut your balls off and wear them on your forehead, then they will let you drive.

  4. As far as I know, you're license should be good here - but you have to apply for a permit. It would cost you about 150 dirhams and it's an over the counter service (no tests required) and it should be valid for 6 months to a year (not sure about that). The min age requirement is 18 for cars and light vehicles, so you should be good if you want to drive a car.
