2 week ago I took and failed a driving test. I had 3 minors and 1 major. I was told at the end of the test that I had failed. Today in the post I received a full UK license.

My question is thus.

Was there a mistake on behalf of the examiner?

Was there a mistake at the DVLA?

Am I entitled to keep the license or should I imform the DVLA?

  1. Ok, first of all if you failed your test, no you are probably not entitled to the licence and is likely to be a mistake by the examiner as normally they would have to inform the local DSA office (Driving Standards Agency) who adminster the tests who in turn inform the DVLA who deal with the issuing of driving licences.

However, first make sure to check the colour of the licence itself, now if its green and has a "P" somewhere on the licence then it is a provisional and no need to worry, however if it is a full licence then contact the DVLA, explain the situation and they will be advise you or go to www.dvla.gov.uk, click on contact us at the top of the page, choose the option "DVLA local offices", then choose "Find a local office" click on whether you live in England, Scotland or Wales, then choose the office closest to you and that will you give you details of the office where you can talk to someone about the situation.

Furthermore, until the situation is resolved it would be best to abstain from driving by yourself.

  2. You should inform them and see if there was an error. You don't want to keep it and end up getting in trouble for it.
