  1. Hello Brad,

Let me see if I can help you with this one. I ride a 50cc scooter or as scooter people call it scoot. I ride a Kymco Super9 a 2005. I have about 8,000 miles on it. It is water cooled and have dis brakes on both the front and rear. When I bought it, it was restricted and did about 30-35 mph. I had it deregulated. Now I do about 48-52 mph. Are they safe you ask? I would say that it is up to you to make it safe. What I mean by that is. Don't wear dark clothes. I bought a hunting vest and gloves that glow in the dark. Always wear a helmet. If you are on a two lane road and have some cars that want to pass--let them. Your the man on the road, but you need to look out for the other guy or girl. A 50cc is a lot of fun and you can go anywhere with it. On the weekend, I do 60-100 miles one way all the time. I only ride back roads and when I'm in town, I hit the horn all the time. It lets people know I'm there and people always stop me and ask about my scoot. They just love the little red scoot. Here in texas you don't need a motorcycle license to ride a 50cc or under. But they do ask you if you have a auto license. And as for insurance go, just get it. You could pay as little as $75 a year or $275 a year as I do. I pay extra. But I get a new one if someone takes it. Insurance is you never need it till you do need it. So get it. Kymco makes very good scoots. If you want a 50cc you know what you have to do right? So do it. Alway remember, Ride Safe, Have Fun, but Ride. Snowman--Doug

  2. I have a Zuma that is 49 cc. Its fun to ride and I take it to work everyday. It kinda sucks going up hills or in areas of faster speed limits. But as long as there is no minimum posted its almost always 20 below the posted speed. Just remember to use a helmet and I wear a refletive saftey vest, so I am more seen by other drivers.

  3. i live in queensland australia and to ride a bike like that you need a motorcycle licence now, and they have to be registered.

and anything with a motor of lesser size is illegal.

the idea has good points but to get a motorcycle licence you need to have held a car licence for at least two years.

seeing on this what people in other countries get away with yes it sounds real dangerous to ride these things.

in australia more people die on motor bikes each year than all other motoring accidents put together yet there are far lesser motor bikes on the roads.

yes cars and trucks alot of the time are responsible for this but it is a fact on a bike you are more likely to get hurt or die.

myself i think it is backward, at school we should learn to ride such a means of transport and be encouraged to ride a small bike rather than getting a V8 or a turbo powered beast or even a large four wheel drive.

and change the mentality of the up and coming road users by making them to have the fear of the bigger road users first.

and then make it harder to have these big unneeded monsters, and easier to have a small motorcycle.

it is a fact that most cars on the road most of the time only ever have one person in them, and then only driving short distances.

  4. In most states if you have a standard license then you are not required to have a special license for anything 50cc and under. Yes, you'll need to have it insured but full coverage should be less then 150 per year. Most states do not allow anything with 50cc or less to go over 30mph and do not allow you to drive these on streets where the speed limit is over 35mph. You'll need to check your city's regulations to be sure though.
