I'm 16 and I'm getting my license soon. (17 age limit in australia). I'm going for my manual license..( i think that's a stick shift) my family only has an auto car and I can only practise in my driving lessons. I have my test in a months time. I don't feel comfortable driving a manual, its very nerve racking. I attempted a hill start the other day and it took me forever to get the hang of it. Also changing the gears annoys me greatly while im trying to concentrate.. do i just suck or do i have to get used to it?? (By the way i HAVE to get my manual license) I barley stall it anymore, only the other day when i was trying to do a hill start.

  1. Manual or stick shifts are not that hard to drive. It is much economical in terms of fuel usage. Much powerful in terms of acceleration. The only thing you need to do is practice. After all, practice makes perfect. Goodluck!

  2. well in the AMerican  A Standard Class C is all you need for any car or truck

  3. >>  I'm going for my manual license

There's no such thing. Just take your lesson and test on an auto.  It is easier AND the test has less requirements (like how you shift, etc.).  If you were to take the road test on manual, you are left to higher standard.

The after you pass, you can just learn to drive the stick shift.  There's no extra test to take.

    Good luck...

  4. Actually Lover not Fighter, some countries only allow you to drive an auto if that's what you do your test in. If you want to drive a manual later you have to get a licence for that. This applies while you are on your probationary licence only. When you graduate to a full licence you can drive whatever you want.

Now to answer the actual question. Driving a manual takes a lot of practice and patience and a teacher who doesn't yell at you every time you stuff up. You will get used to after a while. But I still stuff up hill starts sometimes.

Just keep at it and you'll get it right.

    Good Luck

  5. i also had a hard time with a uphill start with stick shift cars.Just try pulling the handbrake until it moves and then let go the handbrake when it moves

You just have to keep practicing and get used to it.
