  1. 32.7 cl petrol, 29.8 cl diesel

  2. Why not try it?

I did York to Lisbon once not going over 60 mph, it hurt but I saved over a tankful. I normally used to do it at 75 mph through france and spain.

  3. Driving slow to save petrol, that is one of the biggest mith ever

When you are going fast, let's say on a good clear way I do not mean on a busy road, but if one goes fast you do not burn that amount of petrol because you do not have to have your foot on the pedal after that vehicle is going fast some times you Can have your foot even off that pedal & the vehicle is going some time for a very long time. I can vouch for that & I am not joking. I will tell you some thing in 1969 I went to the

    midland, BURTON-ON-TRENT for a week end, I left there @ I

left there @ 11-30 to get to London Stoke Newington, change

my close, get some thing to eat & get to work 2 PM. @ enfield, when I look my tank was on low I mean VERY LOW  I

have for got to stop and put petrol in but remember that I have

a small tin if petrol in the boot so I say I am going to be late & I

will put in if I fun out & most the time on the M1 my foot was on the floor going 100 / 120 in my corsier & I get home eat &

then I put the petrol in the car then left for work. Of corse those were the days when there were no speed litet on the road. But I am just trying to tell you all that it does not save petrol driving slow and I have proved that many times. I hope no body do not even think of doing things like that toay because there are more vehicles on the road today plus it is elagal to do so as well so DO  NOT  TRY THAT  TODAY!!!!!!.

  4. The difference between 65 and 70 mph is between 100 and  200 rpm on the engine . You might save a gallon on a 60 mi trek . Variables: terrain and traffic . Most efficient and economic speed: 55 mph

  5. Doing 70mph gives you roughly 35 miles per gallon

Doing 65mph gives you roughly 43 miles per gallon

    Use 1.85 gallons @ 70mph

    Use 1.45 gallons @ 65mph

0.4 gallons is around 2 litres which is around £2.34

Calculations are based on Ford focus 1.8 Ghia and Petrol engine where petrol is around £1.17 per litre

  6. it is worth a lot more if you can leave even earlier, and keep the speed nearer 50-55, as wind resistance is the major obstacle to moving at over 30mph...  the energy cost of 70 versus 60 is higher than the extra energy cost of 60 over 50, if you follow...  To add ten miles per hour to a speed of 100 costs a LOT in fuel, and there isn't a car out there which turns in more than single-figures for 100mph, I'd be pretty sure.  Close windows, air-con off, remove excess weight from the car such as the junk many of us have in our boots or load areas, and make sure your tyres are pumped to the higher pressure recommended for high-load/high speed driving.

It may be dull at lower speeds, and arguably more dangerous, as you are now in the speed-range of 56mph limited lorries...  And as you are simply driving for longer!  Tiredness can kill, and impatience may get the better of your good intentions.

Also, if you have a good, exciting drivers' car, you may ask yourself

(Question)why you are trying to do an economy run in it...?

    (Answer)To save money

(Question) What would you do with the money?

(Answer)Buy a nice drivers' car, and enjoy it!  Do'H!  You are half-way there already!  Not enjoying it would be like dating Michelle Pfieffer, and only holding her hand...

  7. You can save at least 10% by slowing down 10 mph. If you have cruise control, use it, you'll save even more.
