  1. driving prior to receiving your permit is technically illegal.. UNLESS you are on your own private property. (parking lots are a no)... i would suggest you start practicing... because i am also in MA and the 40 hours of driving was soooo much when i had no idea what i was doing at first. i just got my license yesterday.

  2. On private property you shouldnt have an issue but dont go into public and risk your license! IF you're caught the judge can say you're not allowed to get ur license till 21 + you will be paying a big fine

  3. On your own driveway, you are probably okay - but not on anyone else's property, including parking lots.

  4. You're both not entirely right.

It is perfectly legal to drive a motor vehicle on private property without any sort of government approval; a drivers license is what gives you permission to operate a motor vehicle on public roads, where you may endanger the lives and property of others.

That being said, unless you have permission to do so by the owner of road or parking lot, who may be liable should you be injured, or may incur property damage, you can't legally drive there.  So you can't drive on "anything other then the road".

  5. i dont think you can...the only exception MIGHT be in your yard, like if you lived on a farm or something

  6. Yes, it's illegal. I don't see the point of this question. The chances of you getting in trouble are slim. Get off of your *** and drive.

  7. You can get some experience driving with him in the car on private property and in a vacant parking lot.  Never by yourself or with a teenager without the proper license.

If you are a Massachusetts resident (or even a non-resident), you must have a valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle on any public road, highway, or other way permitting access to the public.

  8. and learnhey if your dad wants to teach you then go for it....and yes it is illegal.. but it is the best way to learn... i had been driving for about three years before i got my permit by the time i got my license i had three trucks and a car.... you want to learn listen to the teacher.. your are right it is.. but still you want to learn let him teach

  9. Your dad.  On private property, you do NOT need a license to drive.

  10. yeah its illegal techincally, but your on private property so you wont get caught, so both of you are actualkly right

  11. In my opinion I believe your dad is wrong. You have to have either a permit or license to even drive. Without those you could get in serious trouble if stopped by the police.

  12. If you don't have a permit, you can drive on YOUR private property.  If your dad owns the parking lot, he can allow you to drive there without a permit.

I'm guessing your dad doesn't own the parking lot, so the answer is that you're right.

  13. you need something that says you can drive.

In Canada we cant operate a moving vehicle until we have our G1.

  14. I live in MA too!

I'd say if it was a parking lot it should be okay, just don't be stupid and crazy. If you see a cop just trade places! Hehe. I believe it's still illegal though. So be careful! If you do get stopped, just tell them you had no idea.
