Im getting either a Volvo 240 DL or a jetta (yr 2003 or older) and this August I plan on driving to Riverside, CA and I know both these cars are good on gas, but I wanted to know if theres anyway I could figure out how much gas money I would need?

I know theres a website out there that estimates how much money id spend on gas, but i couldnt find it... could anyone help me either find the site or guess how much I'd need to save just on gas??

Thanks!

  1. Just went on a roadtrip from Nc to Ca and back (6,452miles total. Total amount spent on gas was $790.56 using an 06 acura tsx with manual transmission. Gas prices were $3.51-$4.00 a gal.

  2. jetta+ cruising speed= 30 MPG

    average price for gas 4.05

multiply that * 30 and you should have somewhat of an idea

  3. gas price = cost of gas per gallon x miles traveled / fuel efficiency of car

  4. 5000

  5. The distance is about 3000 miles (I live in NYC and that's almost the same).

The Jetta will get about 23 to 30 miles to the gallon (I own a Audi a4 -same engine).  So at 23 mpg it will take about 130 gallon (time $4 per gallon - $520).

    At 30 mpg, that's just 100 gallon - times $4 comes out to $400.

If you figure some traffic, etc. I think if you over estimate it at $600, you are probably safe.

    Good Luck...
