  1. I would go east on interstate 90, north on 15 at Butte, east on 1 at Lethbridge, north on 11 at Regina. That way, you're on the interstates for a good portion, they are good roads. What you really don't want to do, especially in winter which will last till end of April or so, is go straight north into Canada from Spokane because then you could end up in some bad passes in the mountains. Scenic, yes, but can be bad driving in snow etc. After the beginning of April, weather is not so much of a concern, and the scenery's great everywhere.

I don't have time to calculate the distance but I don't think I'd want to do it in a day.

  2. Mapquest is an excellent site to help you with this type of question.  If you enter your address in Washington and the address you need in Saskatoon, mapquest will give you the distance, the expected driving time, the route with exits, and even a map for each section of the route.  I have used it many times and have found it very useful.  Your trip is approximately 1000 miles, and you need to plan on about 18 hours of driving  time, depending on your location in Washington.   Best of luck and enjoy your trip.

  3. I know exactly what you mean!!!!

I'm going to Saskatoon also!  But first Winnipeg.

I'm flying into Minneapolis and then driving 7 hours to Winnipeg, then going from there to Saskatoon.

You're doing the right thing by renting the car!!!!  The ONLY thing to be mindful of is crossing the border into Western Canada is not an easy interrogation anymore.

You have to be VERY prepared to explain where you're going, where you're staying, how long your trip is, even justify the practicality of your itinerary, or you're at risk of being refused entry to Canada.

Just make sure you have a clear presentation.

  4. its about 590 miles...roughly the san diego to san fran drive. beautiful...well worth it and much cheaper!
