Driving from southern California to Vancouver this winter?

first of all i wanna know is it better to take freeway 101 or 5 california north....i dont wanna run into any bad areas if you know what i mean... second of all i wanna know if i can bring my flat panel TV or is it better to ship it to canada first ..considering hugh canadian duty.

The 5 Fwy is unquestionably the best route unless you want any extremely slow (and very scenic) trip. Taking the 101 from southern CA all the way to the OR border could take you 20+ hours where the 5 might be 14 or so depending on where you start and the time/traffic if you have to go thru LA.

Don't know about the TV & duty issue.

take california north, trust me, i take 101, and sometimes it goes into really bad areas, depends, on you though. CA north might be longer.
