Question:

Driving halfway in the breakdown lane.?

Recently I was in traffic in northern NH (2 lane highway) behind a car who was driving in a strange way. Whenever he could he would move to the right so he was halfway into the breakdown lane, then move back when the lane had an obstruction. He seemed to do this automatically. Then I looked back and the driver behind me was doing the same thing, although not to such a degree.

Traffic was heavy, so I couldn't pass. But I was driving with plenty of spacing from him.

Is this some habit of country drivers I don't know about?

  1. I believe  so. Fear of a head on I guess.

Down here is WV too many drivers use the on coming lane as if it were theirs too (they take their half  out of the middle).

One is just as bad as another (IMHO).
