  1. Well what state are you in because the rules and what they test you on is different.  I live in New York and acutally just took my test on monday and PASSED!!! They line all the cars up and when its your turn they ask you to pull out so turn the car on and put it in drive and turn your wheel all the way to the left with your foot on the brake and put your signal on to the the left and look over your left shoulder for oncoming traffic (not your mirrors because they don't like that!!) then he asked me to turn into a side street so just put your blinker on and make the turn when it is clear (oncoming traffic) then he asked me to turn down another side street and there was a stop sign at the end of the street so if there is a white line at the stop sign you must stop before that line (be able to see it) just come to a full stop (you'll be able to feel it) then look both ways at least two times each and when it is clear move.  Then he asked me to parallel park behind a car so as soon as he does put your signal on and start to slow down becuase you'll be coming to a full stop along side the car and try to get close to the car and go to this site it really helps for parking http://www.fearlessdriver.com/stressless...

Then he will take you to an intersection (basically a light and ask you to turn left and there will be traffic coming against you on the opposite side of the light.  Just pull up to the light and stop if its red or yellow, then when it is green pull your car a little past the cross walk and into the intersection and then when the traffic on the other side is clear make the turn, if your light turns red before this occurs then you can go when it turns red because otherwise you will be blocking the intersection.

Then he will ask you to make a 3-point turn.  This is super easy to do. When he asks you to do it put your signal on to the direction of the curb and pull the car over.  Then turn your wheel all the way away from the curb and put your signal on in the other direction and let go of the brake a little then when your car is facing the curb on the opposite side of the street without going on it put your foot on the brake and put the car into reverse and turn the wheel in the opposite direction of where you want to go (opposite of where you want your car to face) as you are doing this constantly move your head from side to side looking in both directions.  Then when your car has enough room in front of it to move put the car into drive and turn the wheel all the way to where you want to go (where you want your car to face) and then turn you signal to that direction and look in the opposite direction and slowly move.

That is all of the things that the NY road test asks.  Another tip is to always be looking in your mirrors and make the gesture a little exaggrated so that he will notice you looking.  Also whenever he gives you direction don't say "ok" or respond verbally each time to him because that can get annoying, and it doesn't take much for these people to get annoyed so just do what he/ she tells you and they will be happy.  And the day of just RELAX and take a deep breath and i'm sure you will do fine as long as you practice driving and especially practice the PARKING it is a big part of the NY test.  So Good luck, i hope my answer helped

  2. One more thing to add to Irishnym:  absolutely check where you car is.  Look around you, check mirrors and turn your head.  I failed once because I forgot to check when I pulled out of the parking space.  Luckily, nobody was back there.  Very humiliating.

So, get in the car, adjust mirrors, seat, etc.  Put on seatbelt.  Start car, check around you, and drive, drive, drive.  You'll do fine.
