Driving in Ireland?

Question

We are planning to drive from Rosslare to Dublin via Blarney. Yes it is a bit of a round trip but we have 2 days to do it in. We are keen to see the Irish Country side. Will we see enough from the the main roads that the various trip planning websites recommend or should we find and use tiny little country roads?

I look forward to your answers as we are going to make a simalar trip and looking for the best deal undecided as yet what route to take liverpool or holyhead as we want to land at dublin happy holiday we shall go for a week in campervan xx

Go by coach. The Irish drives are nutters they are as bad as the French & Italians. I should know i've just come back yesterday

If you stay on tiny little roads the entire time, there is no way you will travel the distance in the time available.

The main road from Dungarvan to Cork is reasonably good and it is a lovely drive. The village of Blarney is very pretty. You'll need about half a day to reach Blarney from Rosslare, assuming you'll want to make some stops for photos and food.

You could do some detouring to make your trip for Cork to Dublin, but to be honest I wouldn't recommend it because you don't know what's on the roads at any given time, and it could make you very late. People often bring cattle out, or there could be roadworks going on, or just slow farm machinery.

We went from Cork to Waterford once via Donegal. I'll never take directions from Rodge again.............

Um, I would stick to the main roads.  Ireland is the prettiest place in the world so divert if you feel like it, but the main roads are picturesque enough.  Don't try and kiss the blarney stone though, you'll hurt yourself.

Oh, and they still talk to strangers in pubs.  And women don't run everything.  It's so weird!!

you take your navigating system and enjoy the trip its good to drive for pleasure. good idea make sure you have full insurance coverage and say good bye to all your friends around. as it seems Driving has become slight risky in the snowish Irish roads and all the best. and take good care of you.

Have a look at Google Maps Directions which will give you all the information you will need. To be honest, I'd rather explore Kilkenny Castle rather than the Blarney Stone. There is a fantastic castle in the center of Kilkenny and the town still has a medieval air to it. It would also be a more direct route, but I think the rewards would be betters. Maybe this doesn't answer your question, but this is what I would do...

take the country roads. you will see more of the real Ireland with its farmlands, olde castles, etc.
