Question:

Driving in the dark?

Yesterday, I was driving in the dark and when I got home, my head was a bit sore and I had to lie down and have a rest. I think it was because of the headlights of oncoming cars. Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening? I remember when I went to Las Vegas, it was dark and the bright neon lights made my eyes sore. Next time I will set the rearview mirror to anti dazzle, but I'm not sure if this will stop me from getting headaches.

  1. Try not to look directly at the headlights of oncoming cars.  Look down to the right side of the road and follow the fog lines painted on the edge of the roadway (if available)

  2. Be aware that nicotine may diminish your ability to see in the dark.

It may be a good idea to avoid cigarettes, even second-hand smoke, when you need to see in the dark.

Avoid looking directly at light sources while navigating in the dark. Even if you aren't looking at them directly, light sources close to your face will diminish night vision.
