i have to drive about 20 miles from home to get to work. i live in an area with hills and steep ravines (sp). every winter we get snow and the roads are pretty scary to drive on when it snows, i am fairly new to the area, last winter was my first winter here. i am from someplace the total opposite from here very flat so i am not used to driving on hills in the snow. anyway i have a minimum wage job and like i said i have to drive about 20 miles to get to work when it snows because public transportation doesn't run in the snow. last year when i started working my boss asked me if i would work on the days that it snowed...there are a couple of people that will not come in to work those days. last year i said yes i would...i really didn't know what to expect with the roads and driving in it. finally here is the question should i tell my boss that i can not make it to work on the days that it snows or do i risk getting there. i don't want to sound like a dweeb saying something like i thought i could work in the snow but i don't like the driving after all.

  1. just drive slow and follow the rules for driving in the snow hope that helps

  2. You put your dues in last year as far as diving to work in the snow.  Now I think you should do as your coworkers do.  20 miles is a long way to drive for a minimum wage job with gas prices this high anyway.   Why risk your life?

  3. Driving in snow is never a good idea. Maximum speed on tires with chains is 15 mph - so you're looking at a least an hour commute each way.  You may have seen a few instances of black ice, which is even more treacherous than snow.  Aside from maybe getting another job closer to home, it would definitely be better if you opted for staying home during the inclement weather.

    All the best.

  4. The main thing to remember is to put snow chains on the wheels of the car so it doesn't slip on the snow. Besides that, just drive slowly and take it easy. If you want to know more, go onto the website: http://www.cccsc.asn.au/Text/driving.htm...

  5. If the snow conditions are too bad just call in and tell your boss that you cant make it and other than that just drive safe and slow and leave earlier for work.....

  6. Remember when going down hill or approaching a redlight or stop sign , place transmission in neutral , that way the vehicle is not trying to pull forward as you either coast or gently brake. Near the bottom of a hill you will naturally place it back in gear in order to maintain speed enough to get up the next one. Good luck and think sunny and 70.
