4 wheel drive or ALL wheel drive.  I have an Audi AWD and it can clime my 30 degree incline drive way with ease (in the snow).  But if you are talking about real heavy snow, you need a truck with high clearance + 4WD.

But it won't help stopping unless the car / truck has ABS.

4 wheel drive is best, and when that is not available, choose one with rear wheel drive.  Another thing to remember besides the car is tire; you need to have good tires on your car.

Anything rear wheel drive! You can practice your difting skills at low speeds so when you do it on dry pavement you wont panic.

I think the best vehicle that I've ever drove in the snow was a Ford Escape 4x4.

It's high enough off the ground so you're not pushing snow with the front end, and the wheelbase is short enough that the rear end won't come around when you accelerate.

I ended up buying an Escape after test driving one for Ford. I had to get 4x4 since tire chains here in Michigan are illegal. But, I only have all season tires, since I think snow tires are too much of a hassle to change twice a year.

Not sure about the best , but the better ones are  4 wheel drive vehicles,with a good set of snow   tires.Driving in snow is a challenge and should be avoided if possible.
