  1. Normally no, but anytime you are going into another country all rules are gone. The border guards whether Canadian, American or south african have their own set of rules, and basicly they can do anthing they want for as long as they want.

The female Canadian guards have a thing for doing body cavity searches. Normally they only search females.

  2. at the boarder you might get searched by customs,  you might get caught in one of the police spot checks where they stop cars looking for DUI and seatbelts they regularly set up on the street leading to my sub-division and they freak when I try to make the turn onto the street from the main street they are on.

Only the customs can search your car without reason they have different rules than the cops.  HOWEVER the cops can search your car if they have probable cause so don't give them cause.  Don't DUI, don't speed (too much) and don't run over a cop, besides that have a good trip and safe home.

  3. they do not just search everyones car, rarely do they do a search and you can still tell them no. they have to have a warrent to search or reasonable cause, say you roll the window down and a haze for smoke comes pouring our. then they mioght search you but as long as you have proper ID (birth certificate of passport) it should be a breeze

  4. They need your permition or a warent to search your vehicle in almost all circumstances.  But they will try to trick you into waving your rights if they want to search your car.  Having a lawyer to phone is the best way to make them give up and leave you alone.  You can get pre-paid legal asistance for not too much money.

That's the police, customs can do pretty much whatever they want.  The normal procedure is search suspicious people and search every hundredth car or something like that.  They will pull evrything out and if they don't find anything leave it all by the side of the road for you to put back in.

Even if you give them no reason to suspect you you might be the unlucky 100th customer.

  5. You will not be searched without cause. it depends on your reason for visiting canada and if your answers make sense.

they are professional and you have rights in canada.

Allow extra time to get back into the US,  homeland security is much more likely to threaten you and search you.

  6. You will not only get searched, but tasered like that poor polish dude. Stay away from Canada.

  7. they don't search you if they don't suspect you have anything.

so that means if you act calm and normal and don't say anything you're not supposed to (ex: i have drugs, i have a bomb, etc.) and you only speak when you are spoken to & answer the questions normally, they should have no reason to search you.

  8. It is highly unlikely that you or your car will be searched.  Only a very few vehicles are ever searched.  A person would not be physically searched unless there was a reason.
