Driving license process in state of new york?

Question

i'm 16 right now and have my permit, but i'm not all too sure about what i need to do to acquire my driving license for new york state. can anyone fill me in?

also, another question... do i NEED to take lessons to take the road test/get license?

After the permit, you must take either a 5 hour pre-licensing course or driver education.  That's a must.  Once you complete the course, you can then sign up with the state for your road test.  Do you have your photo permit yet?  You will not be able to road test unless you have the photo permit.  You may also need the form MV-262.  The best place to get answers is to go to the web site at www.nysdmv.com.  Once there go to the "drivers licenses" section and click on "new drivers'.  Good luck to you!
