I know that since Yom Kippur is the most Holy day in Judaism there is no traffic allowed. But does that mean that emergency services are not working as well? Like the ambulances and fire trucks? What happens if someone needs those services?

  1. Of course emergancy services work on yom kippure. The Israeli army fought back when they were invaded on yom kippure in the yom kippure war. So definatly emergancy services would work on yom kippure.

  2. There is some cars on the road in Israel. But like on Shabbat, all emergencies are on alert on any day no matter what date. So yes they do have emergencies.

  3. it is not a law, only a widely accepted custom. of course firemen and doctors work if there is an emergency. they r permitted to carry their beepers with them because saving someone's life comes before the day. of course, there are laws about how one goes about doing that on a day like yom kippur or the sabbath

  4. They all work during the holidays or Shabbos.  Remember, everything goes out the window for preservation of life.

  5. It is not Israeli law that shuts down the traffic but strong national custom that Israelis of all walks of life do not drive on Yom-Kippur.

All emergency services enter what's called a "skeletal deployment" or "special holiday alertness", at any rate we are pretty much ready to handle all minor emergency's.

  6. Those Hospital Trucks .. Embulances, Police and Fire Trucks do. You see them sometimes in traffics. But you dont see any other car

    favorite holiday everrr! =]

  7. Doctors, fire fighters and soldiers work on Shabbes, holidays and Yom Kippur, religious or not.

To save a life you can even get in your own car and drive to the hospital, life is more valuable than anything and it's a commandment to do everything you can to help at any time, even the most holiest day.

  8. of course they are if a Jew is hurt or something on shabbot or any holiday they're aloud to call the ambulances and police and they're also aloud to drive to the hospital like if someone is in labor they're aloud to drive to the hospital of course they are

  9. The government does not stop people from driving on Yom Kippor.  There will be some religious neighborhoods that are blocked off, but all major roads will be open.  Emergency services never stop b/c it is not a violation of religious law to save a life.
