1. Welcome to the wonderful world of the first time driver... EVERY KID is excited AND SCARED of that first time they get behind the wheel... BUT, always remember these things.... a car is NOT A TOY, used improperly, it can severely injure or KILL.... respect IT at all times.... NEVER speed... it is best at the beginning to be going too SLOW then to be going too fast.. (at least until you get a little TIME behind the wheel in)... always remember that PEOPLE and animals have the right of way ... (especially people)... and be RESPECTFUL to other drivers... Do not talk on a cell phone while driving, do NOT play your cd player so loud that your car starts "jumping".... and NO FRIENDS IN YOUR CAR WITH YOU until you have some experience under your belt ..... and ALWAYS, while driving on a permit, go out with a PARENT and not a kid with a license...

  2. I don't think there is a silver bullet for getting past this, but you do need to practice as much as possible, at first on back-roads with little traffic (or big parking lots).

Also, make sure you're as comfortable as possible. Can you see out of all your mirrors?

You're showing what's called anticipatory anxiety, which is part of a phobic response.

Just concentrate and you will do fine.

  3. Read the DMV handbook front to back. Then read it again. See if you can practice in a deserted parking lot to lessen your fear and go get lessons with drivers ed.

Everyone had a fear of something when they first started driving. It's part of growing up. You probably won't be able to sleep the night before the test. Just take it easy. You'll do fine.

  4. When I was little, my father let me sit on his knee and let me steer the wheel. Now, I am aloud to drive in a clear parking lot with my mother or father in the passenger seat. That has helped me gain confidence. Maybe if you drive with your guardian in the passenger seat and you in the drivers seat in a parking lot or deserted area, you may gain confidence with your self and overcome that freaking out sensation. I don't know if your guardian will allow that but if I were you, I would give that a try. Good Luck on your G1 written test!!!
