  2. The term 'defensive driving' is a bit confusing because often a driver must be assertive in dealing with traffic situations . Operating a driving machine is all mental . If one does not have the discipline, focus, intelligence and experience required to operate a vehicle that can and will kill, then that person is not long for this world . Sadly, when we collide with something, it involves others who were just trying to get through the day.

The only time any motor vehicle could be called 'safe' is when it is unoccupied and the engine is turned off - and that is about 98% of the time . There is nothing on or in any vehicle that will prevent a collision with another object . Protection devices, such as seat belts, air bags and safety glass are designed to help keep us alive in the event of a collision . Nothing in the vehicle is going to keep us 'safe' from harm . Only the brain behind the wheel using the vehicle the way it was intended in accordance with the rules and regulations and manufacturers instructions under the existing conditions will prevent collisions and the resultant carnage and destruction
