Is this right?

When you're 16 you do your written test (G1) and you can drive but you can't go on highways.

Then when you're 18 you do the actual test (G2) and you can drive anywhere?

I'm so confused!!

  1. Well, i live in canada, i dont know what your talking about with the whole G1 and G2 stuff, haha ! When you turn 16 you get your drivers permit (written test)  ( no highways, and you have to drive with someone who has been driving for 5 years (or maybe 6) . then one year after you can go to the place and get you're license (age17) , obviously you have to do the driving test first . Then when you get your license your on a 12pm rule for the first year. Hope This Helps:)

  2. Not exactly at 16 you have to do the written test and you can drive but you have to be accompanied by an experimented driver. By experimented driver I mean someone who has had a permit for 18 months. Rules are stricter for those younger drivers. I.E. : 0% alcohol in your blood is tolerated. You can go on highways, tho.

After 18 months with this permit, you can pass the driving test. If you succeed, you have your real permit.

  3. Drivers licences and all matters related to the road are provincially run.  That means each province may (and most do) have a different program that new drivers have to go through.  It would be more helpful if you indicated the province you were interested in learning about.

  4. All your info is partially correct, and for the first year after obtaining your G1 you are require to drive with a fully licenced driver, and when you have you G2 you are able to travel alone, I never got a drivers licenece, as when I was 16 in the 1970's you had to pay more for insurance than my part-time jobs could afford, my sister got on my fathers insurance, I did not and over the years I worked in citys with good transit systems, if you need more information or clarification, check with the Ministry of Transport at the Licence Office near you.

  5. Getting a driver's License in Canada varies according to what Province you are getting it in. So find out first what Province you will be living in when you get here, if you are not here already. Then go to this site and find the Province that applies to you.

    http://relocatecanada.com/driverslicence...

    and read that Province's requirements.

or you can google  it - type in

"Driver's License + Nova Scotia" or whatever Province applies to you.

Good luck! and drive carefully and only when sober please.
