Question:

Driving test failure, is this a rip off?

my mate failed his driving test on friday, he failed before it even started, he was sitting in the car and the examiner came out looking for him, so he peeped the horn, the examiner went across and said its a failure, because your not supposed to peep the horn while stationary.

ive failed mine twice now but not through my driving, but because of stupid rules.

i think its a ripoff, and something should be done about it.

  1. Rules is rules, and if We didn't have rules, where would We be then eh? France!

  2. Thats really bad, I probably would have done the same thing to get the examiners attention.  He shouldn't have paid them the money (the booking fee is paid in advance, I mean money you pay on your test day). I failed my test this morning, but it was my nerves that got the better of me.  You should definitely complain to either the test centre manager or DVLA, its wrong and a rip-off.

  3. Hehe, you don't start your test in the car anyway.. He should have been out and waiting for all the external tests first, on top of that I seem to remember that the horn is only for use as a warning. Ha, check this:

You've failed twice becuse your road skills were not up to scratch. If they were, you would have passed, simple as..

I do think the price is pretty extortionate though!

On the bright side, our test is nowhere near as strict as many countries.

Be thankful your not trying to pass your test as a young South African.

So yeah, get your freaking act together!

  4. it sounds very harsh to fail you on something small and stupid....but there are rules for a reason....

  5. As long as you do what is expected its fairly easy.

  6. I'll bet half these examiners would fail if they took another test. I think the reason I failed the first time was because the examiner forgot to put his seat belt on... When I did the emergency stop, he nearly hit his head on the windscreen.... and I couldn't help laughing!

  7. sigh....Dude...when u go to take the test follow the rules. That's why its a "test"

  8. The test does not start until the examiner tells you verbally. So this should not have been counted as part of the test. If he'd tooted the horn after the examiner had started the test then, yes he can be failed. Also the examiner will never announce the results of the test until the whole of the examination has been completed, pass or fail, unless the candidates driving is dangerous. He/she will normally say "Well that's the end of the test......I'm pleased to say you have passed/sorry to say you have failed". They must stick to the guidelines. Try appealing.
