Question:

Driving to Atlanta from Boston and must return by plane. Is there any train service to transport the car back?

I'd like to leave my car in Atlanta (or nearby if necessary) and was hoping to find a train service that would take my car back to Boston. I would be willing to wait for several days for my car and I can also accept it being costly.

Thanks a lot for your help!

  1. I hope I am correct on this, CRX Railway.  This once was Southern Railway so try both and is headquartered in downtown Atlanta and you may be able to contact them for help.  We also have an AMTRAC station in Midtown area, just blocks from downtown.

  2. Yes there are shipping services. But you could always get somebody to just drive it back up and pay for a plain ticket back down and maybe a couple nights in a hotel there in Boston. I would love to do that. Email me if you think that might work for you.

  3. check out Wagoneer Transport. It is a trucking service that transports autos.

  4. Unfortunately it might be cost-prohibitive to ship it back via rail. First of all, Amtrak is out of the question. They only have one train which carries automobiles, and that's the Auto Train which runs from Lorton, VA to Sanford, FL and only makes a single stop in Florence, SC. Plus you must also travel AutoTrain if your car is going. That leaves you with the freight railroads (like CSX or Norfolk Southern) to ship your car back with. According to CSX's pricing tool it'd cost you around $5000 to ship it from Atlanta to Boston (http://shipcsx.com/public/ec.shipcsxpubl... Norfolk Southern doesn't have pricing tool the way CSX does, but http://www.nscorp.com/nscportal/nscorp/C... displays their contacts - you'd want one of the pricing managers to inquire about costs.

Overall I'd have to agree with another poster - either contract a private individual to do it or look at an auto delivery service to handle it for you.
