Question:

Driving with Aspergers?

My friend has a friend with aspergers syndrome who I hang out with often. He drives and has got into several accidents, even totaled his car. I am really worried about him... I drive with him sometimes and he really does not know what he is doing... he stops in the middle of intersections and stops out of nowhere having the people behind him slam into him. I honestly do not know how he drives at all without my friend directing him what to do.

He told me that the only reason he passed (he failed several times) was because he tipped the person giving the road test.

Is there anyway to get someone involved and maybe take his license away. I know this would upset him but I am worried that he will die in a car crash, or someone else will.

  1. This guy you know bribed the driving instructor to get his licence and he causes so many car accidents.

Does this guy really have Aspergers.

  2. Well, if he slams on the brakes and people hit him, then the people behind him were following too close.  It is technically their fault, but the reality is that if he does that enough, sooner or later he will get shot dead by the guy behind.

He really doesn't sound like he should be driving at all.  Contact the DMV and tell them.

His aspergers may or may not be a factor.  Some people are just lousy drivers.  I have aspergers myself and I don't have a driving problem other than the fact that I don't like to do it.  It wasn't bad when I was younger because the traffic wasn't that bad, but now it is and aspies in general don't like crowds - especially on the roadway.

  3. I would call the police department's non-emergency number and ask them what you should do. They would have the best idea of the steps you could take to protect your friend and others on the roadway.

  4. I like my Aspergers with Ketchup, Mustard, Pickles and Onions.

  5. I would contact the police department as well as the department of motor vehicles and see what they would recommend and I would make it a point to find out just who took his money and get that person fired.

Good luck and hope all goes well.

  6. Don't call your local police department, please.

Instead, call your state's DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles)

and tell them about your friend.  The DMV will probably contact your friend's physician and find out more information.

You may also want to contact your friend's parents.

You are doing the right thing by watching out for your friend.
