Someone drove into my partners car last night and they didn't have insurance. My husband is fine but we were wondering what the law is regarding punishment if people have no insurance? (in england).

  1. first offence 6 to 8 points £200 -500 fine plus a IN10 on your licence which will make getting insurance exremely expensive

  2. YOu are not the only one,I have met this type of  problem before.I have good experience here to solve the problem though.http://car-insurance.easyideas4u.info/ca...

  3. If you have comprehensive cover then your insurance company will pay for the repairs and you can claim your excess back against the person who caused the accident (assuming they can afford it!). Unless your insurer gets their money back they will most likely step the no claims bonus back.

If the damage is not covered then you would have to put in a claim via the motor insurance bureau (MIB). Interestingly these are also the people who run the motor insurance database so insurers and police can check to see if a vehicle has insurance.

  4. sorry to heat what happened. not sure what would happen in your case but if police stop someone without insurance  they impound the car there and then and i think they get points on their license. hope that helps a little.

  5. I think its just a fine unless they have seriously injured someone - then it tends to be more of a severe punishment x

  6. Driving without insurance is a crime. You can be fined, disqualified or even jailed. Their car can also be crushed. Report them to the police, if you haven't already. And if your insurance covers legal costs ask about taking them to court to recover costs.

  7. Please visit:

they can get 6-8 points on their licence :)

  8. The vehicle will be seased under Section 59,

It would be towed away instantly on the scene, and taken back to Police storage, where you will then be charged per a day dependant on the time held for.

You will have so many days to insure it, pay for storage fees, and collect. If you fail to conduct this proceudure, the vehicle would be crushed.

  9. standard is simply to fine them unless they are on say benefits. then it's often public service for so many hours or if an immigrant normally awarning.

really depnends on severity. collision damage and how much££ anybody hurt etc.

the low levels of fines are often why it is far cheaper fo yopung drivers to drive with no insurance that to pay for cover.  ( a ratio of up to 5 times has been mentioned-saving over buying insurance)
