The club’s Russian owner relieved Andre Villas-Boas of his duties earlier this month, with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Di Matteo taking over as the interim coach. Much was expected of the former Porto boss but his tenure didn’t even last a season.
While the Blues have recorded consecutive wins in the Premier League under the leadership of Di Matteo, chances of him taking over as the full-time manager are rather slim.
It should come as no surprise that Jose Mourinho, the self-proclaimed Special One, is the bookies’ favourite to takeover over at Stamford Bridge.
Mourinho is currently in charge of Real Madrid, who are 10 points clear of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 in La Liga table. While the Spanish press has reported that Mourinho might extend his stay in Madrid, rumours linking with a return to his former hunting ground haven’t
abated.
For their part, Chelsea leaders, Terry and Drogba, have welcomed the news. While talking to Sky Sports News, Terry was all praise for his former mentor.
"He's a fantastic manager, a very good man-manager as well.
"But obviously Robbie's [di Matteo] come in and he's doing a great http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684. The target has to be to get the club where it wants to be: playing in the Champions League."
Drogba also relished the prospects of reuniting with Mourinho, and said:
"Yeah, it would be nice [to have Jose back]. It would be fun."
A move, should it take place, will not be completed at least until the season’s end. Chelsea can put the Mourinho talks in the backstage for a while, as they welcome http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 in the Champions league and have a 3-1 first leg deficit to overturn.
Furthermore, they need to finish in the top four of the Premier League in order to be playing Champions League football next season. Mourinho is unlikely to be enticed with the prospect of managing a club that does not feature in the most prized club competition
in the world.
