Newcastle held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw yesterday, which saw Carlo Ancelotti’s side lose their place at the top of the Premier League. It was Alex who gave the ball away and Newcastle striker Andy Carroll made the most of it and opened the scoring in the sixth
minute.
The Blues became somewhat desperate after Carroll’s goal. It was just a week before that Chelsea were beaten 1-0 by Birmingham. Lee Bowyer scored the first half goal, from which Chelsea could not come back and lost the game, despite all their efforts.
It was Drogba’s fellow countryman Salomon Kalou who scored the equaliser for the Blues against Newcastle, but Drogba was not too impressed. The Ivorian international was given the captain’s armband yesterday and he was determined for his side to improve
their form.
Drogba was somewhat disappointed with his sides recent performances, he said while speaking to reporters,
“Once again we created a lot of chances and we could have scored maybe another goal. But the problem is we conceded a goal very early so we had to chase the game.”
He urged his side to return to winning ways, which saw them maintain their lead at the top of the table, which was just recently lost. He said,
“We kept a clean sheet so many times and now we are conceding every game, so this is something we have to change if we want to come back to the top of the league.”
The Blues have only picked up four points from their last five games in the Premier League and have to improve their form if they hope to be title contenders. Drogba was hopeful that his side would improve and admitted that expectations were high only because
Chelsea were a top side.
He said, “People expect Chelsea to win every game and they may be surprised when we don't, but that means we are one of the best teams in the league. That is why the expectation is high so it is a responsibility we have to take and
we try to do that.”
