Drom to lead the entries for the Roly Mills Novices’ Handicap Chase at Towcester on 24th April
Towcester will host the Class 4 Roly Mills Novices’ Handicap Chase over two miles, three furlongs and 110 yards on Tuesday, 24th April. The race has attracted a line-up of eight five-year and older thoroughbreds.
The leading entry among all the candidates is Drom, Gildoran’s nine-year-old bay gelding out of mare, Sabre Drom.
His seasonal debut was in the Haygain Hay Steamers – Clean Healthy Hay Handicap Chase on 22nd January over two miles and half a furlong at Towcester. Drom was entered as the 3/1 joint favourite and led the runner up, Billy Murphy, by 3 ¼ lengths.
Finishing the race third behind the winner was Kinkeel.
The other joint favourite, Chestnut Ben, was declared unraced after stumbling and knocking down the jockey.
He bagged the second race of the season too on 24th January in the Brook Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Chase at Leicester over two miles and four and a half furlong.
Drom was the 2/1 favourite winner with Ryan Mahon onboard. Killfinnan Castle qualified as the runner up and was soon followed by Cesium.
Drom could not strike a hat trick as he ended third while being sent as the 11/8 favourite of the Fernie Handicap Chase on 16th February at Leicester over two miles.
Rody, paired up with Paddy Brennan, won the race and had Roanstar qualifying as the runner up.
Drom’s second try at Towcester was in the Middleton Wholesale Novices’ Chase on 15th March over two miles and three and a half furlongs. He was entered as the 7/2 collective favourite but was announced unraced after unseating the rider.
The other two collective favourites, Satou and Present To You, finished one after the other, winner and the runner up.
The most recent race had him ending fifth on the line-up of seven contestants. The nine-year-old has remained winless in the last three races and today has the chance of adding a win on his profile. He cracked into the new season with a race at Towcester
and four races down the season, he is again testing his luck at the same race course.
Way Back When is the only other contestant who has raced at Towcester during the current season but could not compete very impressively with a fourth position on the field of ten.
