Droopys Bradley looks
unsurpassable
in St Leger win
The £8000 Williamhill.com St Leger Final over 687m, was run at Wimbledon on Tuesday night. It took three qualifying rounds to determine the field for the final race.
There was a cloud of melancholy over the crowd as the St Leger began. In the race immediately preceding the final, a 480m open race, young star racer, Rayvin Giovanni, sustained a career ending leg injury.
Trainer, Seamus Cahill, said that Giovanni’s budding career was over when he confirmed that the hound had broken a front leg in two places.
Droopys Bradley did his best to cheer the crowd up with a stellar performance in the Leger final. Bradley is another young racer with a promising career ahead of him, and he gave the crowd a glimpse of
the future with a 4¾ length win over Bower Hawk. He finished with an impressive time of 41.48 seconds, 41 spots better than his own record time over 687m.  He also came into the final having won two out of three qualifying races, and six of his past eight.
“That was just magnificent. He did everything I expected and much more,” said Bradley’s trainer Paul Donovan. “It's the biggest success of my training career. I've won a Leger. It's hard to take in at
the moment. I'm absolutely thrilled to bits.”
Bradley looked good right from the start, getting out of trap one quickly, and keeping to the rails as he took the early lead. Hawk, a 12-1 longshot, made up some ground in the late stages of the race,
but by then it was far too late. Hawk finished the St Leger with four second place finishes.
He Went Whoosh took third place after getting off to a good start of his own, but he pushed out wide, and didn’t have the speed to keep up with Bradley. Whoosh barely made it past the first two rounds
of the Leger with third place finishes, but had won his semi-final by 4¼ lengths over Hawk.
In fourth place was Shaws Dilemma, who won two out of three of her qualifying races, but was outmatched in this race. She finished 7¼ lengths back of Bradley.
In fifth place was Blonde Blitz, who won two out of three qualifying races, and in last place was 33-1 longshot, Razzmatazz, who earned two second place finishes and one third place finish in the qualifying
races.
